Who's out of contract and will they stay With varying knowledge of the situations of the various individuals who are out of contract, here we grade them out of five as to if we think they'll be staying or going at City (1/5 being unlikely to stay, 5/5 nailed on) Hakeeb Adelakun - 2/5 (has one-year option) Nathan Baker - 2.5/5 Famara Diedhiou - 1/5 Rene Gilmartin - 1/5 Jack Hunt - 2/5 Henri Lansbury - 2.5/5 Adrian Mariappa - 2/5 Jamie Paterson - 2/5 Tommy Rowe - 3/5 Danny Simpson - 3/5 Liam Walsh - 3.5/5 Marley Watkins - 1/5 Andi Weimann - 4/5 (club hold one-year option) (Copied from the Bristol Post) There are 2 maybe 3 I would keep, I think we all know who they are, the rest please go, NOW. Nigel Pearson aiming to streamline Bristol City squad as he discusses out-of-contract players Robins manager also says that the West Country men will continue to trade players in and out to make it to the top. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...gel-pearson-aiming-streamline-bristol-5375154
Weimann is the only one I would DEFINITELY keep from that lot. Not sure about Walsh - people seem to rave about him so maybe we should keep him? If pushed (ie if I HAD to choose 2 more), would be Pato and Mariappa Not seen enough of Simpson to comment. Rowe and Hunt just don't do it for me I'm afraid. Happy for the rest to go - in fact I'd be ok with them ALL going (except Weimann) - depending on who came in of course.....
Wiemann and Walsh but only a year with another year option to prove fitness and maybe Baker but again short term to prove fitness. The others can do one and good riddance.
Same 3 for me, Baker if he’ll accept big wage cut and based on fitness, have a feeling Walsh won’t accept new deal, have a feeling he’ll be on his way, possibly Coventry. Wouldn’t bother with anyone else.
Hakeeb Adelakun - (has one-year option) I would keep, but only with intention of playing, not loaning out. Nathan Baker - I would keep Famara Diedhiou - I'll drive him to anywhere he wants to go. Rene Gilmartin - go Jack Hunt - go Henri Lansbury - maybe Adrian Mariappa - maybe Jamie Paterson - Keep Tommy Rowe - go Danny Simpson - not seen enough to comment Liam Walsh - not seen enough to comment Marley Watkins - go Andi Weimann - keep if recovered well from injury
As Jiffie said possibly the same 3 Got a feeling Nige likes Lansbury so can see him and also Simpson staying. So will have to trust him on those 2. We're not the only club this year with lots of OOC players due to clubs not committing to players. Going to be a roundabout of OOC players moving instead of fees being paid.
Won't matter a jot who we keep or bring in, all it may do is avoid relegation. The yo-yo clubs will fill the automatics, the other will most probably finish in the play offs. That leaves 3 positions for City to fill one of them. Absolutely no chance. We had our chance 5 years ago, employed a rank novice, and signings were made with gay abandon. A sh8t squad is left and consequently Pearson needs 8 quality 1st 11 signings. Absolutely no chance.
You could be right of course RP, but personally I don’t think Nigel Pearson signed up for 3 years of bumping around at the bottom of the Championship just trying to avoid relegation. I think there must have been some assurances of funds being available in order to have persuaded him to sign and have a crack at the Prem. Just my own thoughts.
Looking at your list is a reminder of why we have arrived at where we are, signing and then keeping incredibly cheap options from the lower leagues and then when they go bemoaning them as some kind of loss, like Eisa for instance some on here were bigging him up even this season and he is now transfer listed by Peterborough. I keep hearing the term "he'll come back to bite us on the arse" when talking about players that they believed that we may have under sold, I can only think of one in recent history and that is Szmodic's, a player signed by LJ and for some reason hardly ever played and the same with Holden, a player who has just had a great season in league 1 but the challenge is can he bring that game to the championship?. For me the signing of Szmodic's is sort of a clue to our dysfunctional transfer policy, why did we sign him? obviously because he scored a lot of goals from midfield in league 2, why didn't we give him a chance? not good enough for the championship? maybe time will tell or more likely he didn't suit our style of play (whatever that style was) whatever the reason it was piss poor judgement on somebody's behalf and might still bite us on the arse.
So with your analysis, maybe we should have kept what we had, if we're not going anywhere.......I thought we seemed quite comfortable at the time, no threat of relegation, bubbling around the top half for more or less 4 years.with more or less the same squad apart from those pulled from under his feet as the saying goes, if it ain't broke ........the idea of replacement was to progress.......yeah that worked!! You're coming up with excuses already IMO
It's ok...we all have our opinions....the main of the players I wanted to keep consisted of flair and energy......TBH, if all wanted to depart, that's fine too!!
You keep talking about players 'pulled from under his feet', what evidence do you have of that?. Because the only evidence that does stand up is LJ, Holden and Ashton all publicly stating that the manager had the final say in all transfers. Surely you cannot be saying that all 3 are lying?
There was an extract that someone pulled out the other day, saying that LJ didn't want to lose those key players, is what I thought I read...maybe I'm wrong
I agree 100% however the need is for quality and a cautious approach to Wiemann, Walsh and Baker (short contracts to prove fitness) I don't think any of the others offer us quality but hey as you say it's about opinions and I suppose for once in the past 4/5 years that opinion will come from 1 person.
I haven't seen that, but if true, when did he actually say that? of course it would be easy to say once he was sacked (if he did) the time to have said it was when it was happening and not to perpetuate a lie that he and Holden were in charge when they obviously weren't or were they?.
