So what are your expectations? I'm. Talking about performance here not what a manager says in the presser
In your opinion, would the club's results have been better without Jones? Your post above would suggest not - if so, then really, the improvement is not down to Bruce as Manager but Jones as a coach. In all likelihood, given the form prior to Jones' employment, the club would be sitting significantly lower than it is now and probably in a relegation place. I appreciate the loss of players like Wilson, St Max etc but I think the loss (and impact on form) is more of a damning indictment on Bruce's ability to put into place a decent squad - teams very rarely make it through a season without some losses to key players. So, is it down to Bruce or Jones - you can't have your cake and eat it ....
Bruce employed him, so he deserves some credit and a I've said of things have improved and are working then what's the issue now? The issue is the fans are balls deep in a 2 year argument and don't want to acknowledge the positives or the improvement.. It's a witch hunt at this point mate. I'd like a better manager but I'm giving bruce the credit he deserves
He hasn't got the job done, he matched Rafas league position in his first season and acted like we had just won the FA Cup. This season we are 16th, with 3 games left. We could finish 12th, we could finish 17th. Bruce has an overall net spend of +70 million. Rafa had an overall net spend of - 3 million in 3 seasons.
So rafas aim was 17th and Bruce's isn't? Hmmm You see my issue there? You're pulling out all kinds of irrelevant numbers to justify your witch hunt. He's achieved his goal set by the employer and its got us playing some better stuff since Jones came in... He did that, so get over it We spent less than most clubs...
When was Rafas aim 17th? His aim when being promoted was to stay up the following season. That was 3 seasons ago. If you say the aim was 17th after being promoted, the following season it's 10th to 15th,by your own calculations, Bruce has failed spectacularly as going by those trends we should be in a Europa league spot this season. Which is what Rafa was aiming for.
The fans said the aim was 17th under rafa and that it was a miracle what he did. My calculations? Where are they I just said he's done the job
The aim was never 17th, the aim was to avoid relegation after we won promotion, the season after the aim was to become an established Premier league side, how is it 2 seasons later, our aim is back down to avoid relegation. That doesn't sound to me like Bruce is a success.
That's the aim and it was the aim according to the fans for both rafas seasons. I've coveted this, but we'll probably finish around 13th again which is as acceptable and aswel as rafa did in his last season. I've also already explained that other clubs spent more money, so your we've spent 100 million is sadly flawed..
It's not flawed as we had a 2 to 3 season jump on some of those clubs, we already had an established Premier league team, all we had to do was buy in certain areas. Are you saying that if Rafa was still here, you would be happy with a 17th place finish?
We were 13th when rafa left and since then the other clubs have spent hundreds of millions... Your argument is flawed... More than nufc and we still finished 13th
Newcastle should be as good as Southampton, Burnley and Palace. As of right now, the squad is keeping up with those clubs, but I think Newcastle still play the worst football. The greatest failing of Bruce is he has transformed the club into a two man team, without one of those key players we could easily finish bottom of the table, just dreadful. He's still tactically the most inept bar Sheffield United.
Your point is flawed, however, as those same clubs were spending hundreds of millions or their relative amount at the time when Rafa’s net spend was in the black column. And we still finished 13th.
What happened before is irrelevant... Bruce took over a side in 13th and got less money than clubs that finished lower and we still finished 13th the following season. He's got the job done again this season. We've improved since bruce brought Jones in. Correct?
