This is how I see the conversation plays out.........Players in and out under Ashton say..
:emoticon-0103-cool: "Lee my friend, the favourite son of RP & Wiz".<laugh>.........."We have had offers on all of your key players and club captain...I'm sorry bud, but offers are too good to refuse" :emoticon-0125-mmm:
So we are selling them off, but don't worry, we will find you some replacements that should keep you happy for a while"..:emoticon-0129-call:
"Great news LJ me old buddy.....we've lined up a few promising players that we've located on the Downs......you can even choose a couple from our list.....the decision is yours alone :emoticon-0103-cool:....at least at the end of it.....our profits look good in the transfer market...:emoticon-0164-cash::emoticon-0164-cash::emoticon-0164-cash:....Oh and we expect a top 6 finish......thanks Lee, that should please the fans!! :emoticon-0127-lipss

Easy to knock up 65 signings......just saying :emoticon-0137-clapp

Of course it's not fact, I didn't get it from anywhere, just my interpretation of events....................... play with it as you will :emoticon-0103-cool:

:emoticon-0105-wink: I liked the other conversation, :emoticon-0106-cryin "Sorry Lee you are fired, not good enough, had more chances than anybody, spent more, signed more and more and more, kept us down at this level for 4.5 years, missed out on Europe, split the fan base, good bye Streaky:emoticon-0109-kiss:...........Markee will give you a good reference", :emoticon-0147-emo: "Don't worry, Supcon,One4 and the luvvies commitee are organising a petition of lost excuses to preserve your legacy".:emoticon-0172-mooni:emoticon-0172-mooni

Of course this did happen slightly different, just sayin' like....<laugh><laugh>

In NP I have the utmost faith-Remember how many on here ridiculed me when i said NP was the man for the job some years ago eh Rod :emoticon-0136-giggl:emoticon-0136-giggl:emoticon-0136-giggl give him the tools and time and we are in for exciting times.

He would have had assurances from the Lansdown family before he committed to us.

My take he reports directly to them and no other. Hopefully a match made in heaven.

So what are your expectations? , how long will the rebuild take in your view?, I’ve said mid table next season, top half second season, top 6 third.

If your scenario is true it just goes to show how weak and naive LJ was, surely even he could see that there would eventually be only one possible outcome, his sacking and his responsibility full stop, we all agree he knew the remit and again if your scenario is correct the all consuming power bestowed upon Ashton by SL and he still took the job?.

Again if your scenario is true that is absolutely no way to run a football club, but LJ still signed on the dotted line twice. The warning signs were fully evident in January 2018, with the pathetically unambitious window that f***** up any chance of our best opportunity to advance into the top division in 42 years but he still signed that 2nd contract.

I'm sorry mate the picture you paint is not one that shows LJ in a very good light IMHO, it shows him as somebody who accepted a job (especially after January 2018) 100% knowing that he was being set up to fail and to carry the can when it inevitably went wrong into the bargain.

It sort of explains the 4 year contract he signed in May 2019, I bet Ashton couldn't believe his luck that he had a ready made patsy to cover his ass for the next 4 years.

I suspect there's some truth in both 1for and Wiz's 'comedy' scenarios. I tend to lean more towards 1for's scenario, but we'll probably never know the real truth.

Whatever we think of LJ, the way that the CLUB has handled things over the past 2 years has been terrible. For a club which claims to have set it's eye on getting to the Premiership, you need to have the firepower on the pitch to get you there. Selling your best players and not replacing them (whoever it was who had the final say) is footballing suicide and was only going to end one way. Throw in a hugely disproportional number of injuries to those players left behind and it's frankly amazing we are still a Championship club.
As if this wasn't bad enough, the way that Smith - a fantastic servant to our club - was left to announce his own departure on social media, filled me with anger and disgust. Then the utter fiasco around selecting LJ's replacement - I actually felt ashamed of my club. It was an embarrassment - and a smack in the face to Smith (who could have the last laugh after all, if Swansea manage to get to the Prem).
Throughout all this, the fans have been treated with contempt. The wall of silence - the corporate drivel coming from the board - or being just downright ignored.

I REALLY hope that the appointment of Nigel Pearson heralds a 'new dawn', of sensible buying and either retaining or replacing, sensible tactics, respectful communication, less injuries and stability on AND off the pitch.
We shall see - but I won't hold my breath - this is Bristol City after all.

AshtonRed, I agree it would be a miracle if we make top 6 next season, so whilst I would be delighted by it, I don't EXPECT it. Around mid-table would be my expectation, so I agree with you there.
IF however, Nigel is allowed to build his own side then I would expect us to begin challenging in the season after (one season earlier than your prediction). Any longer than that and there would be a danger we could start to 'stagnate'.
If however, we start to see a tragically familiar pattern of decent players leaving and not being replaced, we will know that nothing has changed except that the letters 'LJ' have been replaced by 'NP' and we fans will be left to consume very much the same old same old.

Exactly my expectations and should be the expectations of every BCFC fan, anything else given the likely overhaul of the squad is unrealistic.

I agree with everything you say in this post, my only point would be, if you agree with Onfer's summation, you have to accept that in the end it was largely self inflicted by LJ, he knew exactly the lay of the land when he signed that 2nd contract in May 2019 but still went ahead and signed it, at that point everything was pointing towards only one possible outcome and that is exactly what happened.

The club has been a disgrace, another scandal is the dealing of the Joe Williams injury.

Totally agree. My defence of LJ was that he took the majority of the blame, which I feel is disproportionate - there was far more to it than simply Lee Johnson. He was part of a setup, with Ashton pulling the strings, that fell short of delivering Premiership football within the pre-set timescales. He had to go - and I agree he know the rules of the setup when he signed - he played with fire and got burnt. Every football manager knows that when things aren't going great on the pitch then they will be the first casualty. They know that when they take the job - it's how football is.

Good point about Joe Williams - I'd almost forgotten he even played for us! The official comms is a joke (not a funny one)

I agree but my point is at the time of the 2nd contract, he could have been under no illusions whatsoever as to the all consuming power bestowed upon Ashton and that Ashton was going to be fireproof in the literal and metaphorical sense, but still signed it, it could only have been for the money and the security of new 4 year deal and for me that shows a lack of moral fibre, not somebody I would want to follow into battle.

For me next season with the major changes in players a steady mid table finish with NP getting a team playing good quality watchable football.

The following season with tweaks and improvements a good top six push and the third year a real go at promotion.

But I'm under no illusions this football club is in a bad place on the pitch and has been for the last three years.

    Interesting times ahead.

The most important improvement has to be ensuring 100% effort from every player in every game, something never a given from BCFC players for at least the last 2 seasons.

NP will not tolerate that standard-those players now who the boss is they will be fitter more hungry under him.

As I keep saying how does anybody motivate players who seemingly don't care? nobody has answered that for me.
