He got them promoted and didn't get them relegated.

They were delusional and thought they should be top half

Bruce has said from day 1 he asked for another coach, interviewed 2 or 3 and decided on Jones.

The fans just didn't want him and have been determined since day 1 to get him out. They perform all kinds of mental gymnastics to justify their emotional decision.

He's ultimately got the job done for 2 full seasons now and I'm saying fair play and well done.

We're going to get a better manager after the takeover anyway.

Are these comments and you being literally one of the only pro Bruce fans on the planet an attempt to be taking the higher ground. Pending the fans make their feelings shown on Friday when they are allowed in the stadium?

Then you can stigmatise the fans!

It seems very illogical that you appear to be not listening to anyone’s reasoning for Bruce not doing a good job, insisting that by avoiding relegation he’s done a good job?

Honest question, no need to be abusive or attack.

I never said I was pro Bruce mate?

I'm not trying to take any high ground in just being reasonable and not allowing my dislike for a person to cloud my judgement entirely.

It's not that I'm not listening mate it's actually that I'm the one being balanced and fair.

90% of the fans said he had to go after we lost vs Brighton or we'd get relegated, they criticised the decision not to sack him, they criticised the appointment of Jones.. Correct?? They were all wrong, so credit where its due.. What's the issue there mate ?

He's got the job done simple as that.

We've played better football and had good results since Jones was employed by Bruce and the club yes? So what's the problem now

    Just answer my questions please

I thought the Jones decision was bizarre but I also welcomed something different because it was ****ing shambolic up to the point and we where like a steam train in the wrong direction.

He kept us up. Thus as far as MA is concerned its job done.

As far as a fan of football is concerned and a fan of NUFC it was turgid mostly and bare minimum has been achieved.

I don’t like to compare him to Rafa because the circumstances where different. Did I like Rafa’s football. Not really. Did I like him as a manager. Yes.

As far as the problem question you ask. If we want progress Bruce has to go. If we don’t get a takeover then Bruce still has to go at the end of the season. Thanks for keeping us up but there’s your coat mate.

There's no real defence of Steve Bruce. Graeme Souness and Ruud Gullit kept this club comfortably up, are they good managers? One of them got us to a cup final and is still hated.

From the repetitive, banal soundbytes (roll wa sleeves up, dust waselves down), to the reliance on others tactics, to the woeful comments about fans (keyboard warriors), to some of the worst performances I've ever seen (Fulham, Sheff U, Brentford), to the dreadful transfers (Hendrick, Joelinton, Fraser, Lewis), to the repeated pattern of failure that follows him everywhere he goes, he's an abject disaster.

That he fulfils the brief set by Mike Ashley, a man we wouldn't piss on if he was on fire, is of absolutely no regard. Just because he's not THE problem doesn't mean he's not A problem! That he's symptom, not cause, doesn't matter. When we objectively look at his managerial ability here and even compare it to history elsewhere, he's woeful on almost every imaginable scale - he's a serial liar, a bumbling idiot, a clueless, cliched, hackneyed dinosaur.

    Harsh but fair.

For balance Rafa made some howler signings as well.

Hopefully this is coming to an end soon.

To be clear, this was entirely about Bruce.

Rafa in isolation, objectively, wasn't a great deal better. As you say, some astonishingly bad signings - he only seemed capable of picking a defender - and horrendous football. Saying that, he was shackled more than Bruce as we'd only just come up and the club only spends what it has - a pathetic model when payments from the PL are guaranteed, but arrive after both Summer and Winter transfer windows, meaning you SHOULD be spending all of it through borrowing, then settling once their payment clears. We're so stupid and badly run we didn't even do that, hence why Rafa had no budget and then Bruce suddenly got £100m.

To be clear, though, the football was a different kind of horrendous - parking the bus, but there was commitment and total understanding from the team. That said he really stifled expressionism and freedom, always wanting players to play the percentages, simple pass, but it was a tough watch most of the time.

The difference is who he is, the feeling of pride, that the club had a figurehead who could be admired and respected, who put Newcastle back on the map in spite of the cancerous ownership. You can't put numbers on that and it's why I would take Rafa over Bruce 11 days out of 10.

Rafa in 2018 :"It is not enough just to finish tenth with four or five teams around you - what I would like is to be sure that the team is able to compete to finish above tenth"

He was given his 5th or 6th choices and had next to no money to spend, you can only do as well as your budget allows.

Remember Ashley claiming Rafa would get every penny from player sales, Rafa then did all the donkey work and had Townsend and McCarthy ready to join, when Ashley said there wasn't any money left. Also talk of Tom Ince, Craig Dawson, Chris Wood, etc

Don't forget Rafa was also talking to Bruno Fernandes to join on a free, but the club didn't want to go to court to sort out a settlement.

Alassane plea, Dennis Praet, Lucas Vasquez, Solomon Rondon and more.

Been partying too hard over the last 2 days to notice you were also having a party on here!

I hate Bruce, I hate the football he plays, his lame excuses and clichés in interviews, I hate his player selections, I hate his squashed up face, I hate everything about him tbh.

He's kept us up twice, and this is a success... Not necessarily a success considering the state of the club, more a success for him personally, as he's so dire I would have expected us to struggle far more.

I don't see any difference between 13th and 17th unless we were 13th most of the season like Palace/Southampton and never in danger then I would regard it as an improvement but when you're looking over your shoulder since Christmas then it's not,3 games left against the League winners and 2 relegated sides fs Who cares about results at this stage, just my opinion mind.

We haven't been in the bottom 3 all season; no doubt Bruce will be sticking that on his CV and proudly bringing it up in interviews at every opportunity. When your standards are so low, simple achievements become astronomical successes.
