Whyte and Slater fit into our style of play and if they are available would be good additions. Also if Elder is not ready by August either Coyle or Emmanuel could switch over to LB (preferably Coyle). The Scott acquisition has not worked out and he could be let go and replaced by Adelakun or a new signing. How much did we get for DeWijs?
Cant agree on Adelakun.... we need to look forward not sideways... now we are a Championship club the opportunity to bring in good Premiership loans outweighs going back for maybe's and if's... Also, neither Josh or Coyle are LB's that showed on Sunday and would be highlighted even more one level up...
I really hope Elder's fit for next season, and don't we have Fleming and maybe Max Clark as backup? Wouldn't want to see Coyle or Emmanuel as primary backup for Elder.
Noooooo, need young and hungry. I'd prefer the cream of L1 youngsters, not over priced PL. Our success in the past was finding rough diamonds.... Maguire, Robertson, Clucas... All lower league!
I think Adelakun was a decent player for L1, but wasn’t consistent enough, even at that level. I think we could do a lot better, I would assume Whyte is the No1 priority for GC. The LB situation, I don’t see us keeping Clark, Fleming looked good enough, when I’ve seen him, to play at, at the least, Championship level. Any further additions, will be better than Clark & Adelakun.
I don’t think it’s an issue every once in a while. It does become an issue when you do it almost every season, as we have.
We need to find Emmanuel a starting position. He's too good to have sitting on the bench. If Burke moves on maybe Alfie jones would keep his place at CH and Coyle move into the holding half-back spot behind Docherty and Honeyman ?
I could see us signing Whyte and Adelakun. They were both effective here. As we play wingers if gives a good opportunity to mix things up. I’d rather sign someone who we know will do a job.
We have a very decent squad but it's a big step up, let's not forget we are competing with clubs that have come down with 100 plus million to spend, then there is teams in this division who have built up a good standard of championship squads over a long time so we really do need to add 3 or 4 proven players at this level.. When you look at teams coming down from the premiership and then see the money difference for promoted teams from division one then it's hard to compete. Having said that momentum is a massive thing so adding a few proven at this level is so important.
We don't know Adelakun can do the job in the championship though, Bristol don't think he can cut it in the champ and that's the main reason he hasn't been offered a new deal by them. He did ok for us, but I genuinely believe we need to and will be looking at better
We don’t know Wilks klp magennis etc can do a job Some couldn’t last time Magennis and honeyman for example
I think magennis will struggle next season for what it's worth, but those you mention are already contracted to the club and will cost us nothing extra to take into the championship next season with us (bar the contractual wage increase), where as signing adelakun is a new extra contract which imo would be better spent elsewhere, Bristol released him "because he really struggled with championship football" those are words of someone who works within the playing side at Bristol when I asked him today for his opinion on the player and why they released him. If we sign him then he'll get my full backing, but I just think we will be looking at better
It’s a risk I guess. But these will be the type of player we’ll no doubt be looking at. The Championship isn’t much of a step up from league one in the bottom half anyway, I can see the club being content with just avoiding relegation.
