Do we want to be a country that staggers from one crisis, one pandemic, to another. Reeling around like a stunned boxer clinging to the ropes to avoid going to the canvas? Or do we want to prepare properly for a harsh future. The second option requires reforms as great or greater than after World War 2. Sadly I fear we not see those. Already the NHS is being forgotten again. PS: Sorry, we've drifted off-topic. Mostly my fault. Will return to the subject of Football now English Football also needs massive reforms. We should be looking to emulate the German model at least to some degree. But I don't think it will happen.
Looks like the deal to buy Derby could be going tits up. Apparently the bloke who wants to buy the club, instead of using his own money, wants to take out a loan using the ground (which he doesn’t own yet) as security against that loan. He’ll then use that loan to buy the club and ground, on which the loan is secured. Can’t imagine how that could go wrong, can you ? Still I’m sure the EFL will sort it out as part of the owners and directors test. Won’t they ? Oh, by the way, he’s a football agent.
I assume the guy in question didn't get much beyond an O level in economics (mind you having seen Farnell and Southall in action, it seems as if when it comes to football, a bit of short term benefit for the incoming owner is well worth the pain landed on the club and supporters when the guy decides to up stakes and leave the carcass for someone else to pick . As it's Derby, and they were involved in some legal nastiness that should have seen them drop to tier 3 last season, I couldn't give a toss to be honest. But these things are erroding the game we love, so I guess it would be better if this person gets a lifetime ban from going near football clubs in the UK.
Nine of the SuperLeague clubs have been fined a total of £13.4m between them. So that's just under £1.5m each. That'll jolly well sort them ahrt.
It's risible isn't it. An utter joke. Fans won't have it. There will be more protests. And the breathtaking arrogance of the two biggest splurging Billionaire Plaything Clubs continues to reach new heights. Manchester City and Chelsea, whose obscene spending has unbalanced the entire English Football pyramid, who stuck two fingers up at UEFA, the Premier League, the FA and all of English Football just a couple of weeks ago - now want their Champion's League Final to be moved to Wembley. So the EFL just rolls over and says "OK, we'll tell the Play-off Finalists they can f**k off and play somewhere else (Villa Park or wherever, who cares) so that Chelsea and Man City can just walk in and use Wembley that weekend. Another supreme example of the Elite Prem Giants with NO respect for competitive football, just chucking their weight about and getting what they want. The EFL should be ashamed of itself. Brown-nosing sycophants. City and Chelsea should not even still be in the Champion's League. UEFA should have kicked them out.
Seems the Government are happy to pay lip service to the English football pyramid, but are content to see all the money stay at the top, while the foundations are starved to death. The financial power of the 'Big 6' makes them immune to relegation. So in effect they already have an English Super League.
UEFA are still threatening Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid with expulsion from European tournaments next season if they don't back down, while Florentino perez here in Spain issued another statement this week denouncing the threats the Super League clubs recieved for pushing ahead with their great plan to improve football by paying themselves loads more money. I genuinely hope all three stick to their guns with this and get thrown out of Europe - they will never give this up and UEFA might as well take a stand now as this ain't going away. sadly, the fans of the Spanish pair seem to broadly accept this as a good idea for them - Barcelona fans when polled had a majority in favour, and were only a bit upset they hadn't been asked first. Both the Spanish giants have a fanbase that seem to believe football was created simply to provide them with trophies, so it would be great to see them get a deserved three year ban from the Champions League. But do UEFA have the spine to do that?
UEFA must stand up to them if it wants to remain in charge. The creation of a breakaway Football Authority in Europe will cause massive damage. Especially if FIFA bottles out and recognises its right to exist. I have no respect left whatsoever for the Super League Clubs. Not even the ones that squirmed off the hook. If anything, I still have a sliver of grudging respect for the three Clubs who are still brazening it out. At least they aren't cowards and hypocrites as well as greedy. It's sad that the Super League Clubs are so dominant. (Well, except Arsenal & Spurs ). In some ways, I would like to see them all expelled for a few seasons. Here's the way things stand this season; Champion's League Final Super League V Super League Europa League Final Super league V Villareal Premier League winners Super League FA Cup Final Super League V Leicester City League Cup winners Super League Best of luck to Villareal and Leicester City. The only two honest football Clubs with a chance of winning anything this season. And credit to German & French teams for refusing to have anything to do with the Super League.
I presume we are all Leicester today? I don’t think Chelsea conducted themselves well when they signed Scott Parker. not that I’m bitter or anything
I want Leicester to win this. But VAR has chalked off another goal with microscopic precision. It's killing football.
