RIP Chris Chilton

Your Dad and family were not wrong.

 

RIP. A true legend. Thanks for the memories and the good times.

 

A very sad day, condolences to his wife and family.
He gave me and my mates many years of pleasure watching him play.

 

RIP Chillo , one of my childhood hero's along with Waggy and co, always stopped for a chat when approached for an autograph, not ashamed to admit I shed a tear or two this morning on hearing this sad news, go easy big man and thank you for the great memories.

 

I never had the pleasure of seeing him play and I’m incredibly jealous of those that did. My grandfather and Dad said he was the best striker in black and amber and I can’t argue based on what they said.

Always a Tiger, always a legend.

My dad always raves about Chillo. He said he was good enough to play for England but stayed loyal City.

On a side note I really think we need to start looking at dementia and alzheimers in football as an industry injury like asbestosis has become in the construction industry.

 

So saddened by this news, I was lucky enough to see most of Chillo's home games he played as well as quite a few away ones. A true City legend and City through and through. He will be sadly missed and remain City's greatest centre forward. RIP

 

Saw him play many times, he was my first footballing hero - a great player, a real gentleman and one of our own. RIP big man.

I was very young and impressionable when I first became aware of Chris as a City larker.

Can't think of a better player or person to have had an impressionable influence on a football crazy young lad.

there have been moves. alan shearer is involved, from what i recall of an article i read. the leather footballs of yore have been replaced, but whether that has made a difference, i don't know. at least there's not the rain-soaked leather version flying around nowadays.

 

RIP Chillo as many have said he was a legend. He was also a gent too.

I was a young lad when I first saw him play. I said to my dad I wanted to be a footballer.

To me he was Mr Hull City F.C.

He was class both on and off the field, never a backward step.

Hull City are today in mourning as we come to terms with the news that the Club’s record goalscorer Chris Chilton has passed away.

Chris, who scored 222 goals in 477 appearances for the Tigers between 1960 and 1971, passed away overnight at the age of 77 and our thoughts are with the Chilton family, and their many friends, at this sad time.

Club flags will fly at half-mast as we remember a man who was simply worshipped by the thousands that watched him play at Boothferry Park, and whose goal-scoring exploits may never be bettered.


After making his debut as a teenager in August 1960, Chilton would go on to spearhead the Tigers’ legendary forward line of the 1960s. Quick to show his eye for goal, he was feared by those that played against him and was deadly inside the penalty area.

The arrival of fellow forward Ken Wagstaff in 1964 saw the start of a lethal and legendary strike partnership that would fire the side to the Division Three title a couple of years later, and Chilton would continue to score with regularity until his playing days at the Club came to an end in 1971.

He would return to Boothferry Park later that decade to become part of the coaching staff, and after having a spell in caretaker charge of the team, Chilton was the assistant manager during the promotion seasons of 1982/83 and 1984/85.

Chris’s hero status was highlighted recently as the Club and supporters helped to raise more than £40,000 to support his care needs during a period of ill health.

His contribution to Hull City will never be forgotten.

Rest In Peace, Chris.

 

Just before my time Chris Chilton but my father often raved about him. A local lad who scores over 200 + goals for the club then goes on to both coach and help manage it surely has to have a statue built in his honour.

Also like tentotwo Mr Chilton was before my time. When I was a kid the main guy at Hull was Deano however whenever hearing stories of Hulls history two names were always guaranteed to pop up and they’re Wagstaff and Chilton. So while I’ve never seen him play I think of him fondly as a Hull City Stalwart

Words like yours here should never be taken the wrong way mate. My Dad spent his final few years in a care home, suffering Parkinsons, Alziemers and Cancer all at once and I'm not ashamed to say that when he did go, I felt relieved. Not just for myself and my Sister, grandkids etc, but for Dad.

A big thank you to everyone who gave donations to try and help Chris's family out.
