I'd question the 'very decent' CB. He's a good L1 defender and I think it's fair to say he's an okay Championship one but if you'd asked everyone on here 12 months ago, few would have been bothered if he left.

I don't think it sends out a bad message either, why would we pay big money to somebody who's not a guaranteed starter? There's a lot of value to be had out there and I think we can trust Grant and Lee to find somebody.

He's still only 24. Hes already decemt and is likely to keep improving and maturing.
Why start again with someone else .... unless it is the plan that McCouglin and Festus step up. (which is unlikely to be an upgrade).

It’s interesting that the better financial decision on Burke is to let him go for free rather than trigger a contract extension even if that means you sell him as his wages are unsustainable.

I suspect that suggests that very few players will be bought this summer, aside from the clubs at the top end of the Championship and the ones coming down from the PL.

For the record, I like Burke and it’d be a shame to see him leave for nothing. At the same time I do feel as though an experienced CB is a must this summer.

i really like Burke, and would like to see us keep him, he's been through a lot with us for a young in. In reality, he's very similar to Alfie Jones; right sided, young and wanting first team football. We were probably ever going to keep one of them. While Jones filled in very well as a central midfielder, to develop he probably needs to play first team football and in his preferred position.
It does allow us to bring an older head 'into the building'

 

The silly season is well and truly upon us, another one we are supposed to be after, though this would make some sense if Burke does go..

 

Would be a very good signing. Only 21, but had a very good season for Gillingham. Had championship clubs sniffing around before but would cost

 

But why are we looking to sign L1 players? We tried that approach last season and well ..............

 

Dont get this Moncur rumour.... McCann fancied him when he was at Posh 4 years ago... McCann used to play with his Dad... Moncur said he couldn't deal with the step up to Championship when he was at Barnsley (and I know he's played there this season, but Luton aren't renewing him) and being 'up north'...

 

And unlike our other CBs he has a goal in him.
