Don't want pulis, at all My fear though is that 'give him 10 games' brigade get their wish, it inevitably blows up in their faces and we are left with another mid season rebuild where the playoffs become our target again and again failure In said playoffs isn't attributed to the new manager. Rinse and repeat in perpetuity
What would have been ideal for me if we had went up, and I know the odds would've went against this, but with a new loaded owner, a clear vision and everything in place, I would've like to have seen if Eddie Howe would have been tempted. Alas it's all pie in the sky and we are where we are.
Football is quite ruthless. Look at Man City as they went through the leagues they kept replacing managers with a new improved version, even getting to the premier league wasn't enough they wanted a manager to win them the champions league hence Pep. If Pep doesn't win it he will be replaced but it will be at their time. Often clubs wait for the manager to fail big time before replacing them, that is piss poor planning. Set the objective achieve it you get well rewarded but that doesn't mean that the same manager can achieve the next objective. LJ has been tasked with getting us out of L1 it does not mean that he will be given the opportunity to get us out of the Championship let's see how it all plays out
I am of the opinion that LJ has to be given the opportunity to implement the new managements philosophy to team building and recruitment, we can’t continue to keep changing manager as often as we have in the past hoping for a magic change in fortunes - sorry but it rarely happens . I think the new owner has installed what appears to be a very competent management structure in place which includes LJ . Sorry but as a fan base I think we have to to respect what his wishes are as well as his aspirations for the club which are very sincere . We have to Support the new owner and his management team who have taken over at an extremely difficult time , we have tried quick fixes for years and years now we have a youthful enthusiastic owner who is in the initial stages of trying to revive our beloved club . I know patience has been stretched too much over the years but on this occasion I advocate let the new regime get on with the job , with Kyril’s background he will know very quickly if things are not heading in the right direction and react accordingly . Now let’s all get behind the club and get us back to our rightful place in the Premier league .
Good, considered post mate. Must admit I'm currently split on this. In the past I've always railed against changing managers every 5 minutes, particularly during the course of the season. Having witnessed the last 6 months or so,I've got doubts about LJ and I wonder, given the player turnover action which is about to happen, whether it would be a better move to change now. I'm worried that if we don't get off to a good start with what will be LJ's team, and we end up having to change in,say,November,we could be in difficulty again. I think most of us agreed that, notwithstanding the defensive injuries,we had a good enough set of players to get promoted. However, our play was often very one- dimensional, predictable and the other teams worked out quite quickly how to play us. Also,we have seemed incapable of putting together a 90 minute performance, far too many times we've done well for one half and gone to bits in the other. I'd love to know why that has been the case. We need LJ to manage the players as well as he talks about it.It's like listening to a theory manual when he speaks sometimes. Rumours persist that the dressing room was not a happy place, but if they can perform like the first half against Lincoln, why can't they do it more consistently? Their contract situation was the same at half time as it was at the start of the game. KLD and KS will have a feel for LJ by now......if they like what they see and allow him the chance to get us up next season, then ok,give him the season. If they have any doubts, get rid now, rather than wait till 12 games in,and appoint another long term, bright young thing, who now has a chance to recruit the players he wants.
Very good post mate and I'm the same regarding the style of play, fitness levels? Etc. Even during the 14 game run that most people point to in his defence, there was 1 game, 1 game! Where we looked like a quality team and that was the Pompey game. The others were huff and puff, relying on a then solid defence to get us through most games. I wouldn't lose any sleep if he was let go but if he stays then he massively needs to up his game as well. The rumours across the road about him losing the dressing room, promising players this and that, then going against it doesn't bode well if true. The person who said it is apparently not a wum either and he says too much has gone on over the past month regarding LJ. If this is true then that would be enough for me to say get rid and have a completely fresh canvas for next season.
Don't despair mate. There is many a good manager who, having been offered a job in the lower divisions, didn't take it because they knew the infrastructure wasn't there to keep it going if they did have success.....not an issue in our case. Someone with a bit of vision, who wants to do a Fergie or a Wenger, could well be very tempted.
