Of course we can afford it, we just think 10k for someone who possibly isn't a starter is money that could be better spent elsewhere
He is a starter He wasn’t played cos of this with his contract 5 goals from a centre half He’ll have offers And we should match them within reason
Whilst theres obviously a salary criteria at the club, I thin k they're being short sighted. He's not brilliant Reece Burke, BUT he's 24 and CB dont even start to get good until they're mid twenties and he's steady and will operate at this level no problem.. ... If they paid him circa 10k for another year on a two tear contract, if we stay up and do relatively well, you would get the 500k investment back and then some. Infact its not even a 500k investment as any incoming CB would be paid 5k a week or more.,.. spend 250k to get a million and a half...? ... just build a he can leave clause if someone offers X... But then,.... what would I know...
Going by what was said on here when there was another potential buyer on the horizon we won't be buying anyone, or if we do they will be the choice of the incoming owner.
I was thinking along the same line, but there again we have a history of being told there's a takeovers in the wind, only for it to fade away at the 11th hour, are we falling for the 3 card trick once again , thrown a few crumbs of hope to distract from unpopular decisions i.e. lack of movement in the transfer market in and maybe movement out, i know this is a negative post , just don't trust Ehab.
The point you made is still valid and shows the difficulties we're going to have this season. Although, I wouldn't give Burke £10k a week regardless of our situation. Or do you look to bring in somebody like Tucker? You'd probably be able to pay him less than £5k a week. Obviously, there would be a decent fee and as has been mentioned, that's the stumbling block but it all comes down to how we (as a football club) rate Burke. We'll know what's out there, and we'll know what prices/wages are required to get them. But for the first time in years, it seems like we're in control and the recruitment should start this week. We've still got about 6 weeks to pre-season so there's plenty of time to get stuff done and not panic.
So unless you rate him higher than Burke whats the point.. Again Salary Burke 2 years I million plus with the chance to sell..,... This Tucker character... lets say 4k a week for two years is 400k plus agents fees, signing on fees and Steve Evans hanging out for 400k /500k... equals the same amount of money...
It may be that a new buyer would want as close to a clean slate as possible regarging the inherited squad/wage bill etc...
Im not at all surprised that we dont want to be paying the 3rd choice centreback the highest wage in the squad. That'll just lead to dissent from the players ahead of him.
Assuming it's a 3 year deal for both and Tucker fee is £400k. Tucker costs £1,024,000 Burke costs £1,560,000 Tucker does work out cheaper over 3 years, same like you said over 2. It depends how we rate Tucker as a club. At the minute, I don't think Burke has a massive resale value, nobody wanted him last season I don't think, Howden may say the contrary mind, but I think if they did, he'd have gone.
No, but he may find a club that dont have 2 CB's ahead of him and are willing to pay a few quid more than we are.
Cant believe we're in another situation where a valuable asset could walk away from the club. Have we at least tried to offer him a new contract before we were promoted? I'll never quite understand the way the Allams handle contract extensions.
Don't know how you can see Reece Burke as a 3rd choice centre back. It's a moot point as to whether he or Jones is the first choice for the right sided centre back position, and Burke has played well at Championship level for best part of 2 seasons, which Alfie hasn't done yet.
Is he a valuable asset in these times when nobody is going to be buying players like Burke? they can get just as good / better on free's due to the number of players being released.
Okay, so he's 2nd choice RCH with half the positions available for him to fill. Splitting hairs. Alfie finished the season, and Burke or no Burke will likely start the next one. He's a better all round player. I accept you need depth but to break the wage structure for not an automatic starter would just be taking the piss out of the starting lads on less. If he won't take what's on offer its probably best if he moves on. He may want to be an automatic starter somewhere else, but hasn't left yet so maybe he's s keeping an eye in the ownership situation in the hope of a better offer. Loads of unknowns but you're always going to have problems matching his demands when the rest of the squad are on less, whether you think the Allams are cheapskates; think Burke is worth £2m a year or whatever.
He hasn’t left because he’s paid up to next month so can’t really go anywhere yet but it won’t stop his agent from touting him around
