Who has said we can't after a better deal? We chose not to offer a better deal. Very different.

But we won’t be spending money elsewhere will we
We now need a centre back with experience to come in and we won’t be signing a 32 year old will we.
So does that mean an experienced as in 6 years in league 1 or 2
Anyone who thinks letting go of burke is a good idea is mental
Next elder will be going and some will say ye we can do better

If true, the guy lined up to buy the club wants to see his team eventually in the Premier League, that's according to Turkish media. If he's seen several recent City games he'll know keeping this squad intact will not help him fulfil his dream. If a deal is close he'll surely be having have some say on shaping the team for next season.

I personally think money will be spent, but that's just from the snippets I've heard and the people I've had conversations with. Will it be huge amounts.... No, but look at the list OLM posted earlier, money ( transfer fee wise ) doesn't necessarily need to be spent this close season to pick up bloody good players...

Re burke going, I think the major thing people are missing here is he wanted to go back down south, it wasn't a case of him wanting to stay and us not paying the money. Hence why it's looking like he's chosen Luton over Bristol

I've said before I only expected us to ever keep one of these two.
    They are very similar in terms of;
    • preferred position
    • ability
    • presumably not as good left side centre back
    • need and demand first team Championship football this season
Some have suggested playing Alfie in midfield, but his preferred position is centre back. While he filled in at League One level admirably, he's at an age where to develop his career, he has to get games under his belt in his preferred position.

It's clear we have to be very efficient with our squad budget. It's understandable why one had to go.

The plain fact is that none of us know, we are just speculating, it is just an opinion. Maybe the fact that McCann did not play Burke in the last few games was that he knew he was leaving because he wanted to be nearer London? Or was it purely Jones was playing well and he kept a winning team. It could be either or both, who knows?

I would have thought they would have wanted to keep him, but the deal offered by us was not enough to keep him here for whatever reason. Whichever way you want to look at it, Ehab probably said this is what we can offer and nothing more, Burke decided for whatever reason Luton's deal suited him better.

Who knows the reason, it could well be purely that case? But in a footballer's life I would have thought, particularly at his young age, their earning possibility is very important to maximise whilst you are playing. Probably, if truth be known, there wasn't too much difference in the wages offered my Bristol C, (If he was actually made an offer by them)/Luton & us, put if this was the case may be to be nearer home is the thing that made him decide on Luton.

I’m not that bothered about Burke. Dunno if I should be to be honest. It’s an absolute necessity we bring in some experience at the back, a bit like Faye that year. Someone that can organise, head it and play 46 games. We’ve missed that since Davies left, especially in the Championship.

My opinion we need to spend our money on the spine of experience. I doubt we will mind, hence why people are getting slightly worried about Burke leaving I suppose. Don’t sign another Tafazolli or Eaves, ffs.

Are we at that stage of the annual club sale already?
Bloody hell. It’s going to be a bit of a drag until the ‘we couldn’t buy new players because we thought a new owner was coming in and they wanted to be able to buy a whole new squad’ stage.

Tis true. I always find it strange that we use that excuse when it comes to buying players yet we seem to be able to sell them or let them go no problem at this time of year.

Yeah it's simple. I heard from a mate that Burke had to go as he wasn't guaranteed first team football with the imminent arrival of Van Dijk. Liverpool have already signed his replacement, so has to be true. this new owner clearly means business.

It’s sad to see a title winning team break up but it was inevitable that some players move on. Burke has been a good member of the team but I think he can be replaced. I wish him well for the future. Out of the two I would be sorry to see Elder leaving, harder to replace in my opinion. Long aside which is a done deal we haven’t lost that many yet and I think Smallwood might go out of the door. That would leave us around five or six to bring in and that’s achievable. They won’t be big money knock your socks off signings but that don’t worry me too much either. If Grant can build the team he wants with the players he wants we might have another good year.
