In a few years time Liverpool will pay a lot more for Virgil Van Dijk replacement (as he's now 29 and at the peak of his game).
Johnson had him on the bench for months - only given a chance through injuries, so he's probably thinking, fk that - not being a L1 benchwarmer.
This was Sanderson at Sunderland. After the Shrewsbury game he then started apart from the last remaining 7 games as he was injured.
He started Johnsons third game and played the next 3. Willis came back in and he was dropped to bench. Once Willis was injured he was back in. There seem to be a view Johnson never picked him for ages but he picked him really quickly. Whether that was due to injury or otherwise I dont know. Parky however signed him and never played him. Judging by the way Sanderson carried himself he might well have had a great relationship with Johnson. Of all the games he was available to Sunderland he did not start in 4.
Which totally contradicts the notion that Johnson ignored him and only played him when he was forced to. It was only right that he'd give the contracted players a chance and, as we know, our defence had been very good without Sanderson. If he really didn't want to play him he'd have brought in Younger.
He got the team flying and no one mentioned the young un's tbf. It was only when the experienced players started to fade that people wanted changes. The likes of Power should've had the experience to keep things going but didn't ... ... hence him, and others, being released by the club. I didn't believe it was the right time to hand the responsibility of gaining promotion to lads at the start of their career.
I keep reading this on here that Johnson didnt play him for months. It simply isnt true. You can argue the reasons he played him but not when.
It's another myth like Jones being a match winner ... ... how many winning goals did he score for us?
Jones has talent and pace to burn. He didnt make it count enough. I would argue he contributed to goals against us too often too. For me he needs to take more responsibility on the pitch and he could be quality, but he isnt a young player anymore...
He's missed his chance tbh. If he was going to make it he wouldn't have been on loan to a L1 team at his age.
I've no doubt he'll want value for money but hanging around in L1, through penny pinching, won't be a preferred option.
But it's crap. The Wigan match was the day LJ was appointed so that match doesn't really count in my opinion. After that match he was on the bench twice.
Sanderson credits LJ for giving him a chance in the team and having faith in him... in his own statement. It won't stop the bitter/twisted/wums from spouting utter ****e though, the sad twats.
It's typical that some people seem so keen to rubbish the story, I really don't get such negativity. I'm not saying that he's definitely signing but I really hope that he is.
It is odd how often people re-write history. It is so simple to state facts yet some refuse to do so and instead try to write a story. It is ok not to like Johnson. Just give an opinion on why you think he is hopeless and we can argue, but state a lie and you have no credibility.
