I've always thought Wilshire was probably the most talented midfielder of his generation unfortunately maybe a little like Kieron Dyer injuries have just plagued his career. Don't think he's a realistic prospect for us. I do think we are playing a dangerous game thus transfer window, as whilst I agree with recruiting individuals who should be playing in the Championship I do question how realistic this is given our current situation and secondly I would question why some players who could play at a higher level wouldn't hold out to, that means they'd really have to buy into the project but at the moment noone can tell what that looks like. We had a very similar summer transfer window the last time a scouser was in charge and we ended up getting a load of former PL players who'd got something wrong with them one way or another. We need to build a team with a mixture of players including incorporating those who are already at the club
Accrington ? Didn't we buy a striker from them who scored 1 goal in a season ? I rather hoped we had set our sights higher than that.
There will be so many free agent players this summer that some will have to drop down a league or two just to get a job. It's probably the best time we could have for a major rebuild as there will be many available players. New contracts can be given with the incentive of a large wage increase upon promotion and that could tempt some players to join us. We have new owners and new ambition to sell to the players that want to be a part of a promotion chasing team so I don't think it will be that difficult to get players in.
Why is there going to be so many free agents? we’ve only let a few go so our squad is going to be massive if we recruit a few, which we do need. I hope there’s some very clever scouting going in far and wide to find some gems here and abroad. I do care who we sign. I want some link between us and our team, which is why the academy is so important to bring players in alongside transfer signings. I just hope that gets Cat 1 status ASAP because we’re second best to Norwich a a choice for a young player looking for development. And I don’t want to be second to them on any front, on or if the pitch.
Another player I don’t think we got the best from, not too bad a fee in the present climate/our situation.
Our new owners are playing a very dangerous game in getting rid of the whole squad and recouping peanuts, amd looking to build a complete new squad. Im guessing the wages we'll be saving balances the books a little
There's no risk in shipping out Dozzell. I am looking forward to a season when our moves don't break down every time a certain player gets the ball.
There is a huge risk in having 18 players leave (and probably more to follow) and not receiving any money, and currently only having signed 2 players. I appreciate there is plenty of time left, and i'm assuming the new owners know what they are doing (!!)
Our squad was massively bloated in the first place. Even before we sign more players we comfortably have a better XI to put out than last season.
Agree, I can only really think of 1 player who played consistently well over a number of seasons during the ME era and that's Cresswell. Dozzell certainly had a huge amount of ability but didn't show he could cut it as a first team, whether that's because he hasn't got what it takes or he like many before him hasn't been in an environment which is conducive to enabling players to flourish, I'm not sure.
I agree stretchy but feel it is probably more Paul Cook's wishes than the owners given what he said after he took over about the players and additionally what he did at his previous clubs. It is a risky strategy and one which doesn't make me feel comfortable particularly as pre season isn't far off. Given how much I rated Cook and he was my first choice he is making me question myself with some of the decisions he's making but we just have to as a club support him, although if things don't go well he has certainly put extra pressure on himself.
Our club needed a full reboot and that's exactly what we're getting. From executive staff to support staff through to the first team we are finally getting a proper structure in place and are acting like a professional club. It really highlights how far Evans ran us into the ground seeing all these appointments being made and putting people with the relevant experience in the correct positions. I'm not expecting promotion next season and those that are will have a season of moaning to look forward to. I'm not saying it's not possible, or that it shouldn't be the aim, but there is so much wrong at Ipswich that it may take longer than next season to get everything right. What I am expecting is to see a team that is competitive and has a clear way of playing, with a regular starting eleven and bench so that we can start getting some consistency to our performances.
Agree with much of what you say SD, trouble is with 4 weeks of pre-season training soon, we have yet to make any more ooh la la new player signings. In my view, this is a risky strategy. That said, like most, I am pleased at the new broom sweeping thru all aspects of our club.
But Stretchy most of the players are worth peanuts abs we had something like 40 professional footballers. To bring in even half a new team which we badly need means we need to ditch 20 to even get down to a typical 26-28 man squad? dozzel puzzles me. So many Whys? Why couldn’t we make it work, if he’s so poor why would a team in the div up pay that kind of money? Anyway, it’s meaningless now. It’s good money, unlike under ME it’s going back into the club and the on and off pitch improvements and it’s not like we’ll miss him. Ultimately he did FA for us.
All gone a bit quiet on the Harper transfer. Last we heard it was all but done, that was last week....
