Joelinton like all the players has improved since Bruce brought in Jones. He's certainly ahead of Gayle and Carroll
Three in eight. I do think, for what it's worth, Joelinton is one that would improve with Jones' system. In so many ways we were the worst possible club for Joelinton to go to. Civil war between owner and fans, a much-loved manager out the door, and his replacement seeing him as more of a target man than a false nine. The times I've seen him work best are always when he's facing the opponent's goal; be that with runners ahead of him to play in, or on the shoulder of a defender to run in behind. He's not got the touch or the awareness to play like Wilson.
There's been no problem at all for half a season and progression in that time. It's just a witch hunt now
Fank you. I also think thats' why Rafa didn't want to touch him. He knew he was wildly over-priced (I'd never pay even half of £40m for a striker with 1 in 4 in the Bundesliga), and I think he realised his tactics couldn't accommodate him. If we assume Rafa was going to keep refining the 3-4-3 we finished with, he needed a replacement for Ayoze Perez and maybe Rondon (I think he'd have pushed hard to sign him permanently). That means we were in the market for a traditional target man, and a wide-forward that wants to play off said target man and act like a poacher. Joelinton isn't that, as shown by the fact he has more assists than goals.
Aye because he wasn't getting picked, when we had Diame and Shelvey, 2 absolute plodders. Big mistake
Bit of a quitter don't you think? Not prepared to stick in and fight for his place. The lad had talent but has hardly set the football world alight since he moved on.
Yeah, I loved ol' Mikel. Mind you, the way he set up his contract here told me he wasn't long for Tyneside. Even then I can't blame him too much. A different Newcastle, one with ambition, would have surrounded him with better players and seen him as the long-term replacement for Jonjo Shelvey. Sadly that's not the life God chose for us. Just look at his time at Hoffenheim, 9 assists 11 goals. Even now he's touching 1 goal involvement in 4. I know there will be people scoffing at using such terms as we grew up on goals scored as the only metric for a striker, but it's a different game. If I didn't know any better I'd think they looked at his numbers, saw the same return as Rondon, a big frame, and assumed he'd be a more mobile version. It's fairly obvious to me we don't have good football people in a lot of senior positions. Even the famed Steve Nickson is a former administrator at Blackburn Rovers.
