England...0-0...Scotland.....an uncomfortable 90 minutes for a poor England.

Scotland were very much like a League 2 side going to Old Trafford in the 3rd round of the FA Cup: 5 at the back and one up front setting out not to lose. Fair play to them, they achieved that but it shows how low their sights are set to think that's an historic result.

Still, England were poor, Can we really play Foden, Mount and Sterling in the same team? All great players but quite similar. Do we need Rice and Phillips against Scotland? We needed a passer and dead ball specialist to make the most of what space Scotland yielded. Ward-Prowse is on the beach somewhere. Is Harry Kane playing well enough? Wouldn't Calvert-Lewin have been a more physical presence to match the Scots?

    Pickford,
    James, Stones, Coady, Chilwell
    Rice
    Grealish, Mount
    Foden, Calvert-Lewin, Sterling

On reflection.....England on this display will not go too far into the knock-out stages.

Todays Telegraph Sport has a chart showing the three routes we can take from the group stages.

1.....If we won the group our likely opponent could be Portugal....Q/F...Spain...S/F...Holland...Final...France.

2.....Group runner up our likely opponent...Sweden...Q/F...France...S/F...Italy/Belgium...Final...Portugal.

    3...Third in Group...Belgium...Q/F...Italy...S/F...France...Final...Portugal.

Personally I just cannot see us with luck getting beyond the last eight.....and maybe falling at the first knock-out stage of sixteen.

Harry Kane must of been watching Luke Jephcott.....his form is rock bottom and maybe he shouldn't start.

If that chart works out we will meet in the Q/F's either...,..Spain...France or Italy....just no way past those teams for England I feel.

Will Maguire be risked in the next game... he does strengthen the defence and has a goal in him at times.....and we need goals....how can this team not be scoring goals ?

Rumour going around that France have been cheating by playing 12 players on the pitch at the same time.....but it's not true.....there is only one N'Gola Kante on the pitch....although at times it looked as if there were more.

Hungary...1-1...France.......Hungary beat the odds and make a game of it.

Portugal...2-4...Germany........Portugal make a flying start.....but at the end it's Germany who are flying.

I watched the Italy - Wales game. Well played the Welsh, not the better side but brave, determined and organised. If they don't get Belgium, they must have a real chance of progressing to the quarter finals.

Italy now, what a good team they are, even though they rotated a lot of players from what's presumably their first 11. Also, what a bunch of cheats. That's the most immoral 90 minutes I've seen for some years, excluding Wycombe Wanderers obviously. Diving, sly and not-so-sly fouls, false protestations to a very weak referee, the first bad one I've seen so far, they've got it all. Perhaps he was just overwhelmed by the torrent of sleaze the Italians spread all over the pitch.

The classic example was in the middle of the first half when one of theirs ran into the right hand side of the Welsh penalty box as the Welsh looked at it. There was some contact at the edge of the box which he got through unscathed but after two or three normal paces, he realises he's not going to be able to cut the ball back and falls over. The referee doesn't give a foul for this outrageous and completely obvious piece of deceit but doesn't book him either. What do you have to do to get booked for diving? Stop the game for a springboard to be brought on?

I wanted the Welsh to play them at their own game (and actually give them some real bruises to ponder) but to their credit, they didn't. Dragons v Slime Balls it was.

Why did Ampadu get sent off? It couldn't have been for the tackle even if it might have been a yellow at worst. Mind you the Ref in the Torquay match was worse. I'm sure I saw a monkey hanging from his back pocket. It wasn't in a brown envelope though.

Think Gareth Southgate was on the same coaching course as Derek Adams. I don't know if they do stats for this but did the ball get passed backwards more than forwards. You want them to win but it's hardly entertaining is it.

Who will England play next Tuesday at Wembley (5pm).

What we know is that being group winners....England will play the runners up in group F.

1.....It will be Germany if both group F games tonight end in draws.....or for both France and Germany to win......odds on that happening are 42.3%.

2.....It wil be France if Germany beat Hungary and France fail to beat Portugal......odds on that happening are 29.3%.

3.....It will be Portugal if Germany beat Hungary and Portugal beat France......odds on that happening are 25.8%.

4.....It will be Hungary if they beat Germany and France beat Portugal.......odds on that happening are 2.6%.

Artical in todays Daily Telegraph Sport......23/06/2021.

So the odds reckon it might be Germany with France and Portugal not far behind in Opta's odds........Oh dear a case of choosing which way to die.

Now is the time for England to come good.....the jittery bit of qualifying for the last 16 knockout stage has been accomplished.....can England put all that so called potential together and start to perform....and of course keeping away from the dangers of a penalty shoot-out.

They were much better in the first half last night. After all the hype about Grealish, who did have a decent game, it was Saka who stole the show, aged just 19. He can play in midfield, out wide or as a full back, so not only is he very good, he's versatile too. Surely having seen the difference those two make they will have to play against who ever comes next? Or not as the case may be,

It'll be tough: Germany are top of the EUFA national rankings, Portugal second and France fifth. Unlike the FIFA rankings, these placing probably mean something as European football is a lot more homogenous than world football, in which Asian, African and Pacific Rim countries mostly play each other and get points for it. But then, England are sixth in the EUFA table so it all depends on how the teams play on the night, with England getting the support of what's bound to be a largely home crowd.

    Germany...2-2...Hungary.....unlucky Hungary

    Portugal...2-2...France.......watched this.....excellent game

So you've guessed it.....we're playing Germany.....BUT they do look beatable.....maybe not by England....but we can hope.

Our opponents could have been any of the four teams above at different times of the matches.

Now we know the final sixteen clubs it has become clear that we are in the favourable half of the draw.

Okay we play Germany next....and we should have a chance of beating them if we raise our game.....after that we need to get the better of those in our half of the draw.....Wales, Denmark, Holland, Czech Republic, Sweden & Ukraine.

We would not meet any of the following teams before the final......Italy, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, France, Switzerland, Croatia and Spain.

We are playing at Wembley on Tuesday.....and we know that the semi-finals and the Final will also be played there.....our only game away from there would be in Rome if we reach the Quarter-Final....against either Sweden or Ukraine.....the ball is in our court to lose as long as we stay away from penalty shoot-outs.
