Is one better than the other? I mean Marriott has at least played in the championship, but he's hardly set it on fire. I think he's yet to hit double figures in a season. Charles on the other hand, other than last season where he did really well, he looks a bang average lower league striker, and obviously unproven in the championship. Maybe this is the best we can hope?
I guess you can structure it in a way that the payments would be small enough not make a dent in the club coffers. Maybe something put together like the Stephen Quinn dealers but a bit more money. Well, a fair bit more money, but we could just make 10,000 payments of £100 a month. We’d pay them off in 2099, but by then we’ll be European Champions for the eleventh time and be owned by the largest asteroid mining company in the Solar System.
It was widely reported that a player was having a medical with us but was it actually him or were some guessing it was him? Maybe the latter when it was actually Williams? #2+2=
. ....and Charles will have won Golden Boot for the 70th successive season, so we'd at least get our money back.
Thanks mate, must be exploring options then if the Marriott medical really has happened maybe holding out as Charles first choice from before. If Marriott is to happen though as you say should be early this week so we live in hope
Calling Dion Charles a bang average lower league player is just laughable. He's only been back in the pro game for 2 seasons, Accrington took him from Southport in the National League North. He got 8 in his first year and 19 in his second in L1. He's clearly improving a lot. Marriott got 10 goals & 4 assists in his 1st season for Derby in the champ. That's a pretty solid return and either signing would be great for us!
Do either of these play the wide role? If not, we still need another one in the building. There was a long period last season when he would hook the two wide players after 60 mins. Certainly the case when we were playing two games every week. He lost faith in Scott in particular and became a bit more flexible with his 433 towards the end. It's likely he'll want four he can trust though. Hopefully a young un on ;oan from premier?
How many loans are we allowed in the Championship, seem to recall it was 3...? so the goalkeeper from Chelsea and 2 others...?
Isn't it 5 but only 3 in the matchday squad? I may be completely making that up based on my bad memory however.
Of course, but that means that we're trying to get Charles as cheap as we can and if that fails we'll go with Marriott.
As much as I think Charles would be a terrific signing, I think I'd prefer us to go for Marriott. He got 27 in L1 when he was 22/23, usually scoring that many at a young age would translate into a top championship goalscorer. It can take some time but he knows Grant, and Grant knows how to get the best out of him. We'll create chances next season so having a poacher would be a real asset. If Accrington want too much for Dion, we can just wait, he'll be on a free next summer. There's not a lot of money around, I can't see anybody spending 7 figures on him. Funnily enough, Gillingham want £1m for Tucker too, Pompey went in with £200k. They're in a similar position as he's only got a year left too and there's no chance they'll get close to £1m for him. I still reckon we'll get him later in the window and I bet it's around £500k
