It's not often that I will agree(ish) with Ronaldo
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57517337
I suppose that it might have been a different story if Ronaldo was directly receiving sponsorship money from Coke Cola...... but, if players are 'compelled' to give interviews, they should not be used to 'promote' a product by having it plonked in front of them.... the inference is that the player 'approves'/ endorses the product.
If UEFA feel justified in persisting with 'product placement', I think that any player who is faced with the 'intrusion', should be allowed to voice their opinion of the product... If it was me, I'd be tempted to have a swig out of the bottle / can, and then spit it out on the floor - with a disgusted expression - saying '' I think this taste worse than Pi**

I agree with you about Ronaldo, however, there's several angles we could come from on this. If Coca Cola are sponsoring the event, then it gives them contractual rights. At the same time Ronaldo has every right to remove a product that does not fit his image, albeit legal advisors may disagree.

My view on it....anyone remember when Tobacco use to sponsor F1?

Well why stop at tobacco! Coca Cola argue people have the right to drink what they want - yes that maybe the case, but it didn't stop tobacco from being banned in advertising, and why should sugar be exempt from the same rules of behaviour.

I don't like half the rules set on tobacco, but it's a case I have to lump it, so Coca Cola on your bike. As Ronaldo says, drink water kids. Oh and when UEFA say the placements cannot be removed, hope you are ready for future law suits then, the same that was applied to tobacco, anyone remember the Marlboro Cowboy, that ended well.

How do you know both parcels were given to the same postman?

One could have been given to a man in a van, the other one to a postie on foot. <whistle>

'FREE'dom day --- have a (round of ) drink on me !...... We'll take your money - but you can't buy a drink!!

Yesterday, as a party of about 16 family members and friends, I went to a local pub - for a meal. We were able to sit at 4 tables next to each other. There was hardly any room between the tables - and no 'control' over social distancing...... Before entering, in order to 'uncomplicate' matters it was ''agreed'' that each table ( individual families ), would pay 'separately' ) - and a table of mutual friends would do likewise....... this didn't stop us from 'mingling'.

During the 'proceedings', the premises became quite busy - and on one occasion, one of my sons decided to go to the bar to refresh his drinks. Another customer was also at the bar - and was ordering a large number of drinks - which included a number of 'shots' ( judging by the volume level of the group, I don't think it was their first ! ).... My son got his drinks. He asked to pay -but was told it would be added to his 'tab'. My son said 'Table 8.''

A little later, service for drinks became a bit too slow - prompting me to go to the bar to refresh my tables' drinks... When I approached the bar and made a request for drinks, I was told to ''Please leave the bar - you're not allowed here - you'll have to order drinks at your table.'' I pointed out that this didn't seem to apply earlier. I was drowned out by several use of the words ''Covid & Rules.''.... I then asked the Nazi '' Where do we pay after we've finished our meals and drinks - because our 4 tables are paying separately?'' He replied '' Somebody from EACH table will have to come to the bar to pay!'' ... I very quietly said '' Rules don't apply when you take our money ! '' I wasn't impressed with the (lack of ) customer service by Mr. Hitler at the bar - but, I didn't want to cause a 'scene' at a lovely family gathering...... So, Like a sheep, I went back to my table and put my hand up to attract attention from the staff - which eventually arrived just as all the blood had drained from my arm...

........anyway.... having got more drinks - and everyone having enjoyed our social gathering, it was time to leave - so 4 of us went to the bar to settle our bills..... and usually, I don't pay close attention to the itemised details - BUT - something in my head told me to do so on this occasion -- and I was glad that I did !
I saw that the bill for my younger son's table was much more than he expected. As he read down the list he was horrified that a 'round' of drinks ( shots ) had been included. He then remembered the guy next to him at the bar, earlier in the day... My son had asked for the drinks that he ( my son ), was ordering, to be added to 'Table No.8'' -- obviously the cheeky b****** next to him had told the bar staff to add the cost of the shots to my son's table.

The staff at the bar took some convincing that my son had not ordered the (shot ) drinks - and actually didn't believe him! They called for the waitress serving Table 8, and asked her if she remembered serving the shots. She scratched her head - then flicked through her pad and said '' I don't know - I don't think so.'' My son, quite rightly, was a little annoyed that his integrity was in question. He told the staff '' We didn't drink the shots - they weren't for my table - as your records clearly shows. I am not paying for them.'' The barman called the manager. My son went through the explanation again. The manager said '' On this occasion, we'll take it off the bill.''... My blood was beginning to boil - but I decided to let my son deal with the matter...
The bill was adjusted, and paid.... I thought that my son was going to walk 'cowardly away' - with his honesty in doubt. .. I should have known that the 'apple doesn't fall far from the tree.'.......

...... My son spoke quietly to each of the other table members . One from each then checked and paid their bills ( without any more drama ) - because, my son wanted to have the final bit of drama all for himself..

...When my son got his receipt, he told the manager '' Oh, we've all forgot to leave a tip..... let me give you mine - '' How about treating your PAYING customers with a bit of respect - and not as common thieves.... I know exactly where the customers are - that had those shots - but as I'm not allowed to do your job for you, I'm not going to tell you ''........ that's my boy !

Apparently, YOU can be fined for not wearing a mask in public places in England !.............. unless, of course, you are in Government !

............... I think the only word that describes Boris Johnson is - HYPOCRITE ..... even our Queen, at the funeral of her husband, had the good grace to show that she is not above the law.

    Red card offence ??
In yesterday's game, Ampudu of Wales got a straight red card for a 'slightly mistimed' tackle.... His foot 'stamped' on the Italian opponent - with the feet of both players on the ground - and both in very close proximity of the ball....... Basically, both players made a genuine attempt to play the ball. Ampudu was a 'split' second late --- literally microseconds.... There was no malice - nor any recklessness in the tackle.... I actually thought that it was merely an accident - and I'm not sure if it warranted a yellow card - let alone a red...... I sincerely hope that the game is not becoming so sanitised, that you can't make any form of contact without risking capital punishment................................................. just what I think

    Cheating referee
Russia v Denmark -- the Russian No.13, already on a yellow card, has pulled down a Danish player - in what was a an awful foul - and the referee did not give a card !! - it was a blatant pull down - a definite card.... The referee cheated - there is no other word

Hypocrite - you know who I mean
I have no worries about dying from/ with Covid19.... I shall die, prematurely, from / with a heart attack - caused by my blood boiling as I rage at cheating referees and hypocrites. Boris Johnson needs to either stick to the rules ( which he expects only apply to plebs ), or drop them for all.

I thought the standard of refereeing up until that point had been quite good, with the exception of maybe one other incident that a ref had to view on the monitor but can't remember the game it happened in now.

Also take a seat for this next bit....are you sitting comfortably....good, because I'd even felt VAR had worked really well, prior to the incident I mentioned above. So what that proves, it's not VAR that is the problem but the idiots running it.

Anyway that's the first and last time you will ever see or hear me praising VAR.

Right, now to my final bugbear we really need to sort out this offside rule. Lukaku was not offside, I don't care how thin or fat you make that red line on the monitor, offside should have to be clear and obvious to a human being, one with reasonable eyesight. I really am getting fed up with all this nonsense.

I think I've commented on this once before, but too lazy to look back...

Why do you think Portugal was moved to the green list, then eventually moved to amber/red?

It certainly wasn't so British tourists could go on holdiay! This is how it went, UEFA regarding the Champions League Final said, we are moving it from Turkey and you can't have the game in England because of your restrictions.

So UEFA come up with a master plan, they contact Boris and suggest, how about you tinker with the traffic light system for Portugal, and then Chelsea and Man City fans can go to the Final....then you tinker it back again sometime after.

As you say mate it's hypocricy at's finest.

    Ebenezer Scally -- I wish I knew - before I took Option A !

I hear ( from a 'would-be' employee ), that Mr. Scally is trying to recruit cleaning personnel at GFC - to work during the game, and cleaning after each match (and NOT being able to see the game. ).....

So - we're talking week-ends and late night shifts ( anti-social hours ) - but, perhaps not as anti-social as watching the game !... Do you want to know the wages ?? - of course you do... Would you believe me if I said ' NOTHING.' -- seriously -- NOTHING --OK- that's not quite the whole picture !

The 'conditions' are that the candidates are required to work for NOTHING for 3 shifts..... and if they're good enough, they 'll get paid on the 4th shift . They do get a bottle of water (( that'll help to replenish all the urine extracted from them. ))... And the candidates have been warned to '' look busy'' if Mr. Scally is in their vicinity - because - 'apparently' - '' He expects everyone to be busy.'' (( he obviously doesn't expect that from everyone on the pitch ! ))

Well, it doesn't look like Mr. Scally has learnt anything about HR over the years.... I can understand employees being on a probationary period - even at a reduced rate of pay - but - to expect potential employees to work for nothing is outrageous....... The sort of stroke that he could pull is to get rid of people after 3 shifts - then 'hire' more personnel - for 3 more unpaid shifts........

...... Well, as Ebenezer Scrooge would know - you don't get rich by giving your money away.

    I couldn't help myself ! .... you've got to have a laugh !
Today, I went with Mrs A to a local optician.... I nearly thought about getting my eyes checked - due to a pain when I look upwards - but I realised that it was due to watching so much hoofball - with the ball in the ozone layer all the time....

As I waited in the reception area, a woman entered the premises and hesitated . She looked around - then spoke to me and asked '' Is this the optician's?'' In a flash I answered '' Oh, no - that's next door.'' .... The receptionist ( who had been on the telephone), then got up and approached the woman- who had turned around, and had started to open the door (( I would have stopped her !! )). The receptionist asked the woman if she could help. The woman said '' It's alright, I wanted the opticians - but this gentleman said it's next door.''
I 'owned up', just as the receptionist told the woman that I was having a joke at her expense...... I said '' I wasn't being horrible - I could have sent her to the dog parlour two doors along. - it's a pity more women would believe everything I tell them.''

That's almost as good as the one I told a customer in the shop the other day.
She produced a winning ticket from a 'foreign' shop in Nottingham.
I apid her out and asked her if she was staying here for long. She said she was going back that day, but would be back visiting later in the year.
I asked her if she had her Norfolk Passport already. She asked me what passport. I showed her this, and she asked me if ti was true. I told her that it was true, and that Boris was in the process of getting more sent out to various shops in Norfolk. She called her husband over and showed him the 'official passport'. He just rolled his eyes and said "FFS woman". I couldn't help it..honestly.

One for James ( lucky Saturday ! ) -- will Ukraine be the new Iceland ??
One of my sons phoned me today - he has a dilemma. He is seriously thinking of betting £1,000 stake on Ukraine to WIN ..... that's not a typing error - One THOUSAND £££........ and he doesn't mind if he loses the bet !

He expects England to win, and if they do, he would make £6,000. If he doesn't place the bet he makes £7,000.
If he places the bet, and Ukraine do win, my son stands to win 'only' £4,000...................... Either way he cannot lose.........(( I can't go into the exact terms - but - trust me - it would be impossible for my son to lose ( he's done it a few times previously.))

The 'complexity of the 'wager' is that my son doesn't have to make the bet - and if England win, his current 'accumulator' is such that my son would get £7,000 - BUT - he MUST consider that without a bet, my son will get only his money back if Ukraine win...... He fancies an England win - and doesn't want to waste £1,000 on betting for a win by Ukraine - but - just in case they do an Iceland.... he asked if he should 'cover' the situation

Given that 'favourites' - France are out. Spain nearly messed up in the penalty shoot-out, I suggested that he shouldn't be greedy - cover the bet - and be happy with only £4,000 or £6,000 profit......

........ Well, James , where have you put your 50 pence ?

The 'winnings' is dependent only on the team that wins the tie ! - scores at 90 or 120 minutes are irrelevant.

    Of course I'm not smiling -- I'm a Gillingham fan !!

During the pandemic 'restrictions', my family and friends have queried my disposition - wondering if I'm smiling ( or not ), behind the face masks I have worn - mainly black masks for all the funerals ( 6, with one more this month ), I have had to attend in the last year.

I welcomed the Prime Minister's announcement, yesterday, of the news about the de-restrictions on 19th July...... but I do wonder 'why' do we have to officially wait another 13 days ?
When restrictions were imposed, most of them didn't officially start for about a week or two....... to allow for the logistics to be implemented - NONSENSE! - the restrictions should have been implemented IMMEDIATELY --but - where impractical at such short notice - any punishment for a breach could be waived for a week or so -- and Boris got it totally wrong regarding the issue of people travelling from India - until he decided he wasn't going there !!

Now we're told that we can take off our masks from 19th July - so why not now ? - let's face it, there's not many people wearing them 'properly' - and they're not doing much to stop the spiralling infection rate...... And as for the 'rule of 6' -- I see that, as far as Wembley is concerned, that rule is '' of 60,000,'' and Wimbledon will be 100% capacity this week - with the British Grand Prix allowing 139,994 more than 6 to attend.

In recent weeks the Government have changed the interpretation of various rules - mainly to suit themselves. There has been a breath taking display of hypocritical arrogance in their behaviour and decisions. They have lost much credibility - and think that a cheap 'medal' given to the NHS is going to placate their staff ( after all, a 1% pay rise wasn't going to do that ! )..... Boris may do well to reconsider this pay 'award' - because - he'll need hospital surgery when he locks us down again in time for another crappy Christmas................ sorry - about my language - I realise it's wrong to use the C word in July.

Is it really ME who is THE idiot?

In the Euro thread I have mentioned that I got woken up at 3.20 this morning - by my nextdoor neighbour - complaining of a flood in her kitchen - and blaming me !
..... what I didn't mention was that an 'overnight carer,' who my neighbour has been having for several months, was obviously inside the building - as her car was parked on the driveway.... so I knew that my neighbour was in 'good hands.' ..... and that 30 minutes later a plumbers van pulled up in the road -etc etc.

At 9.30am I saw that the overnight carer's car was still on the driveway ( whereas she normally leaves by about 8am each day.).... I decided to knock on my neighbour's door - looking to see if I cold assist after the carer would have to leave...
I think that my nutty neighbour's mental illness must be 'catching.'.... The carer had the audacity to rebuke me - saying that it was a pity that I did not show the same level of concern in the middle of the night !........ I told this woman that I saw her car on the driveway - I knew that my neighbour would receive help from her, and that I could offer no further assistance than to call a plumber- which she obviously did. My presence would not have 'helped' the situation -- but -- that, despite all the unjustified nastiness I get from my neighbour, I would never leave her to cope alone when she needs help....

I was amazed at the attitude of the 'carer.' (( I wasn't being paid handsome money to provide the help of which this person was perfectly capable - and whose responsibility it was !! )) This carer has been present, on several occasions when my neighbour has treated me appallingly. I know that this carer, and the gardener have discussed the 'unbalanced' state of my neighbour's mind - and seriously worried etc, etc, - yet - this carer can still find it in herself to somehow wonder that I should not want to help my neighbour !......... Incredible !....... I told the carer that it is my state of mind that should concern her - because I am still willing to give my neighbour any help if there is nobody else on hand....

    ....
( the water leak was from a problem with the mains pipe --obviously not connected to me. )
