The kid shouldn’t be near the England squad in my opinion, he’s not up to it yet and should be cementing his place in the under 21 squad playing against player that are his own age. He’s not Rooney and looks both overawed and scared in equal measure. Chiellini physically frightened him (not surprising). He needs a few years to fill out and mature into a role in the squad. This was too soon for him.

He's there to win matches for England, we all seen it needed changing 2nd half and he done nothing. He takes the plaudits when we win he should take the blame when he does nothing to change it

I've been pretty unimpressed with him the entire way through.

The only really good performance was Ukraine. Germany and Denmark were decent but the result could easily have gone the other way.

We had a wealth of attacking talent and we did nothing with it at all.

His insistence on two anchoring midfielders was a massive error. We squeaked through the other tests against pretty poor opposition and the first good side we played made us look toothless.

Are you ****ting me? He is a professional footballer. A forward. In this squad he is a sr player.

If he can't take a penalty then he has no right to be in a game where penalties are an option.

Can anyone explain why Southgate never thought of bringing Sterling off. He was by far our weakest link tonight. A rhetorical question I know but I'm scratching what little hair I have left

For me, Kane was cannon fodder for the Italian defence, basically sacrificed. Just boggled at how we didn't seem to attack the space it left.

I was only using Southgate as an example mate.

Look at the previous England managers with Venables, Allardyce, Hodgson, Southgate, Keegan, Hoddle, etc ...

... how many have managed top clubs or, if they have, won anything with them.

Southgate was terrible tonight, I don't see how anyone can say different tbh.

Totally agree with you regarding they penalties, some players try to be too clever. But for me as a manager you want your big players to step up. I can think of 2 who didn't

At least Southgate can put his demons to bed. Those 3 penalties were that bad that everyone will forget 1996.

Southgate should be drumming this out of them in training. What he should expect is each and every player to pick a spot, twat the ball into the net repeatedly in that spot and practice it until they can hit that spot every time. We should never lose a game or a tournament through idiotic bullshit penalties. All of those that were saved were just that. Kane’s was poor placement he hit it hard and it was past the keeper who guessed right, only because he blasted it.

The stuttering penalties work if the keeper goes early, keepers are wise to them so they no longer work. I thought Rashford was having some kind of mental breakdown during his run up and lengthy wait, I expected him the curl up in a ball crying before he popped it onto the post.

If he was a CF I'd agree with you, if they're more of a dribbling winger there's no guarantee they're good at taking penalties.

Sterling missed his last 3 apparently. I wouldn't say he doesn't deserve his place on the pitch if he's not a good pen taker he's had a good tournament.

agreed. However, it looked to me that the list was already sorted before hand. Like it was a game plan.

Apologies thought you were you on his back. I am hurting and think any criticism.of him now are wrong. We have made a semi and a final under him.

To ve fair Venables you could say Venables managed Barcelona. We also recruited Sven and Capello who had won stuff. For me Sothgate needs backing.

Anyway i am off to the bottle of Jura before I misread any other posts in my emotinal state

I think far too many people on here play football manager and fifa and think they know better. England deserved to get to the final and could have won tonight. We lost on penalties with admittedly a couple of lads that didn't look right to take them.

I for one are proud of the lads and think we have unearthed some gems in this tournament to take us forward
