Anything incoming? Saw Grant was at West Ham's pre-season last night, probably watching Holland. He's only got a year left and is 23 so doubt they'd want to offer him a new deal
Do you think the defender from Wimbledon now unlikely to happen? Seemed like it was close to done about 10 days ago? Appreciate all your insights.
Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Scott Fraser from the MKDons franchise. Very surprised he didn't move upto the Championship, but Ipswich look to be really going for it this year. Would have been a good signing for City but...
Very surprised at this one... Under-23s forward James Berry has left the Club after his contract was cancelled by mutual agreement.
New signings seemed to be coming in frequently a month ago, but GM suggested he wanted 3-4 more I think. Is it just coincidence that everything seems to have gone quiet since the announcement of the EFL restrictions on transfer activity?
Clubs are now looking at players and deciding if they are in plans at the moment. There’s still a good chunk of the window to go and we’ve signed enough to plug the gaps and improve on last season. If the season started tomorrow my only worry would be at CB, but I imagine there are things in the works to get that sorted.
Maybe just me, but I don't see that improvement. More a case of 'like for like'? The improvement is what will hopefully come from the ongoing development and experience gained re. the likes of KLP, Wilks, Greaves, Docherty, etc. The sudden stop of activity inwards seems a bit concerning to me. But as others say, there's still time before the window closes.
My take on it is that it's a coincidence, after all the club knew this was in place when setting out to acquire the signings made so far, none involving fees. I suspect as we move through the window, if the club decide they want someone strongly, and a fee is involved to make it happen, one of two things will happen, the EFL loan will be repaid by the club at that point, or more likely potentially being cleared/financed by a player sale. Just my take, could be entirely wrong.
I think Williams is an improvement on what we had, different player to Whyte but still very good. Baxter definitely an upgrade on Long.
Not meaning to be argumentative .... but .... so you mean we've brought in a better back up keeper (maybe an upgrade) and a better back up 'winger' (hmmn, TWT; Whyte was decent & underused, and also experienced at this level, Williams might be decent at this level, we really don't yet know?). That really isn't meaningful improvement!
Well, Whyte wasn’t going to get in ahead of KLP or Wilks. I don’t think Williams will right away either unless he has a stormer in pre season. So I’d say it’s a good acquisition. Maybe improvement isn’t fair until he’s kicked a ball. I haven’t seen that much of Cannon so I can’t say if he’ll be more effective than Slater, but when he played against us he looked pretty good.
I’d happily use Emmanuel on the right wing if required. He seemed good getting into attacking areas and as he’s played RB he’d be solid defensively.
