Not a bad idea that. Would also make extra time a much better spectacle. Think it was the mercantile credit classic event at Wembley which had an alternative. Striker gets the ball half way line and has 20 seconds to score. It goes out of play times up. But if the keeper saves the first attempt and it cones out you have till the timer runs out. Keeper fouls it’s a “goal” means there’s some skill involved. not that I kind a penalty shoot out mind.
I lke the way Ice Hockey does it. Golden goal but every few minutes both sides have to take a player off the ice. Means the manager actually has to manage by deciding who stays on
Why not do the crossbar challenge? A player is not expected to hit the crossbar. So when he misses it wont be as devastating to him. Each team takes 5 and if, as expected, they all miss, first team who hits it wins.
Take the pens BEFORE the game then the loser has to make a game of it namely England like on Sunday, but the Italians would have bored us all playing sidewards backwards football and they the best at that .
true as many have said don't think we will get a better chance, home pitch advantage crowd in great voice, I was gutted when Rashford missed, and was saying why all the poncing around he sent the goalie the wrong way ,he just had to put it in a virtual empty net. Hope we all learned by that
I thought he was going to put it away tbf, that penalty for Man United in the 94th minute against PSG (I think) was very similar in terms of pressure and he smashed it into the top corner. Very disappointing.
I have always thought Rashford is an excellent player, can't understand why he was used so little in the Competition, wonder what Southgate saw we didn't,
there were a lot of the lads saying too defensive set up with how many at the back but when the first goal went in after 2mins i thought a rugby score here
I think we scored too early. Southgate’s tactics are to sit back and hold onto the lead after an early goal. Was never going to work against a team with Italy’s talent. We deserved everything we got in the end unfortunately.
do you not think the lads would be knackerd after that time mate especially given there was only 2 goals scored in open play all night
hurts me to say it but when they were putting the pressure on in the second half i was up on my seat he need a tactic change then but left it too long, foresight is a wonderful thing though
Aye mate but then it comes down to fitness and not the luck of penalties. No idea what is a fair way I just think penalties are a **** way to lose. Keepy uppies might work, 5 players with a combined total.
