GK - Burge , Patterson RB - GAP (Lichaj) , GAP , Khachosa CB - Flanagan, Wright CB - Xhemajli, GAP (Doyle) , Younger LB - GAP (Hume), GAP , Dice CM(6) - Evans, Winchester CM(8) - O'Nien, GAP, Neil AM(10) - Embleton, Pritchard, Hawkes RW - Gooch, Diamond, Benji LW - McGeady, O'Brien, GAP FWD - Stewart, Grigg, GAP
I know this comment won't be popular but, if Grigg was motivated, him and Stewart could work if they both press L1 central defenders. It would mean the wing backs stopping the outlet to the flanks but that's another story.
Whisper it quietly but I think Grigg might thrive off Pritchard and Embleton. I've definitely said similar each season for the last 3 though
hope your both right, but we have pinned our hopes to the Grigg mast before to come down with a bump, and i would hate to be lumbered with him if he doesn't show some form pre season, as it would then be xmas before we could loan him or ship out, I don't know how long he has left on his contract but maybe that could scare him to action I also hope Charlies new team have the same trouble with him as we have had with Grigg
I wouldn't have Benji anywhere near the squad. I don't think he's good enough. He couldn't even make an impact in the national league with Torquay and he's 21 now. I think O'Brien is a waste of a shirt, another player who looks way out of his depth with us.
Grigg could have worked last season aswell mate if he actually gave a feck. He walks round the pitch without a care in the world.
Very worrying to look at, that squad looks very weak on paper compared to our rivals. We have one striker in Stewart as it stands, we need to get at least another 2 or 3 in.
still a few holes to fill there which could be a worry in a couple of weeks if not sorted. stewart and grigg, stewart showed more energy and desire than any other striker we have had recently and was really still getting up to speed after his injury...grigg, with the right service may still 'be like a new signing' but as stated above he really did not look like he wanted to be on the pitch, sorry will lad but your best bet of getting a nice move where you want to be is to score goals and get noticed. in the main, we have a 'decent' first 11 but sorely lacking in replacements, if the club can at least sort a solid defensive line that is always a good base to build from...but do we have the time and patience to build (again).
When i saw Adams listing of the team with Winchester in midfield,, i winced from what i saw last season he has to improve a lot, as there are 3 very weak first teamers on that list i hope we are gunning for better to fill the gaps or replace the weaker ones as squad players
That there is the problem. He didn't want to come here, he doesn't want to be here, he's never bothered his arse for a second whilst he IS here./ Get ****ing rid ASAP
T This is probably it, he’s just not bothered. However, I think he could work out and prove people wrong if he wanted to with the right parter. Anyone remember how finished Eric gates looked before Marco gabiadini came? But I do doubt this will happen in Griggs case.
Possibly the worst transfer in our club's history. People will point to the Rodwell transfer, but his fee and wages, relative to our income at the time was largely insignificant. Buying Grigg for £3m (or whatever the actual mount was) totally wiped us out in terms of transfer kitty the following summer Paying over the odds for a player a club didn't want, then paying the player over the odds to come here and accept a contract he didn't want. Is utter madness
i seem to remember LJ was quoted as saying something along the lines of 'he may not show his true worth in this team but once we get the players in that we want we will see him differently' (obviously not those words but you get the drift)...there were glimpses in there but overall he did not show enough to convince the fans imo so i guess we need to judge him on performances this season as we are now going for players to fit a system. if these players do not arrive i am not sure where the club can go, several options have been tried (usually badly) or staff were more interested in how much they could cream off Short or their friendly local agents and it is beyond obvious that as fans, the majority are really struggling to believe anything coming out of the club..personally, i have stood in the Roker, in winter, in the pouring rain and watched some meaningless game that we won with an 83rd minute penalty and have come out happy because the lads gave everything, no household names, no prima donna wages just lads wanting to play football and i would prefer to have those days back and get out of this feckin league.
I actually thought Winchy looked decent in some games, most notably the Pompey game. He was spraying the ball around the park effortlessly.
