I really don't know what to think about this, but it could have huge implications well beyond CAFC or football..... https://www.cafc.co.uk/news/view/60f2bfd6b485e/update-ahead-of-saturdays-game-against-dartford If vaccination is the only way out of this virus and it isn't going to work, where does that leave us all ? Bearing in mind his age, NA is likely to have been double jabbed for some time, so should have the maximum protection by now. And he's got Covid. Unfortunately I can see the 2021/22 season being far more disrupted now than the 20/21 season. But more importantly, how safe are we all, even if we've been double jabbed. We need the figures from the government as to how many of yesterdays 51,870 new cases were not vaccinated, single jabbed and double jabbed respectively. What is the delay ? Why isn't this being published ? What is being hidden ?
I've never agreed more with a post than with this one. This coming season is now in danger of being plunged into total chaos. So many staff and players are either going to be infected or pinged, Clubs will be screaming for postponements. Or just won't turn up. The same applies to the rest of society too. How many people will be pinged a fortnight from now; 2 million per week, or 3 million? The vaccine is not what we were told it would be. Doubtless is gives a degree of protection from the worst symptoms. But vaccinated folks are still getting it, and still getting sick. It's beginning to look like all that "95% protection" talk was way off the mark. Some newspapers are already predicting another Lockdown by September. If that happens, I don't know how it will be enforced. Not by consent much anymore. Presumably by force and fear. Fear especially, if the people lose faith in the vaccines.
If we are forced into another Lockdown in the next month or two, Boris Johnson and his Health advisors should all resign. Draconian measures will be needed to get UK society through this winter if the vaccines aren't going to prevent huge numbers of sick people swamping the NHS again. If it happens, we will have gone beyond party politics. We will need a cross-Parliament Government of National Unity - to prevent anything like the debacle of Johnson's planned trip to India from ever threatening the wellbeing of the British people again. And in my view the first act of that new Government should be to close the borders of the UK. Food & essential items (medicine) freight only. No tourists, no politicians on junkets, no business flyers. Then get the army onto the streets to enforce COVID rules. Matters have got so slack it's a bloody joke.
Thanks Lardi, blimey, that's a high endorsement coming from someone like you. I'm a very laid back sort of person and not one to fret or worry about anything, but it's hard not to be concerned about this. Obviously NA is just one of tens of thousands getting this news every day at the moment. I hope that he and all the others do not get seriously ill from Covid 19. I shall watch this story with huge interest. If in 2 weeks time NA is back at the helm managing our team and reporting that he just had very mild symptoms (or none at all) then all well and good and perhaps the vaccine is doing it's job. But if he gets seriously ill then for his sake and all of ours, I'll start to fear the worst. I can live with disruption to a sports league program, but tens of thousands more deaths and serious illnesses is something else entirely. Btw how is your relative doing, if that's not too personal a question to ask ?
Everyone in her household (all isolating together) now has the virus. The one who caught it first is getting better. Thankfully nobody has had to go to hospital. But it's laid them low with unpleasant flu-like symptoms. I live across London from them, but I offered to drop off food deliveries if needed. They have others helping with that though. Thanks for asking, not a problem. Naturally I'm praying they are all on the mend soon. If matters had got any worse, I don't know what I would do.
Thanks Lardi, I've had flu only once and it was very unpleasant and it laid me low for a few days but there were no long term effects, so perhaps what is happening to them is not too bad relatively speaking and considering what Covid can do. Let's hope they don't get any 'long covid' type issues. Hopefully they will all continue to recover without needing more urgent treatment.
The effects of "Long Covid" are being grossly underestimated. We're all looking at the death rates, but long covid cases are accumulating fast. I don't believe johnson is following the science any more, rather the scientists are following the government, sad to say.
I think we're just about to enter the Twilight Zone... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-57874404 From Monday you'll be able to go to a night club, but you'll find it ever harder to get hospital treatment (already nigh-on impossible) or even catch a tube train. One by one, services we all rely on will be closing down. A random partial lock-down by mobile phone app, with no sense of community solidarity anymore. How long will it be before supermarkets are closing, and millions of shoppers return to panic buying baked beans & bog roll? That'll make the lives of NHS workers even more unbearable - again.
And yet another double jabbed 'name' tests positive for Covid 19. Let's hope the vaccine is as good at reducing symptoms as is claimed. It certainly looks more and more as though it's ability to stop the virus altogether is being eroded by the bloody virus itself. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57874744
It's one rule for me, another for thee... The Prime Minister & Chancellor have been pinged, because they were close to Sajid Javid. Are they self-isolating? NO. That bumbling fool Jenrick is telling struggling small business owners to let their businesses go under rather than ignore the NHS app. He has no clue whatsoever about how much of people's lives they invest in their business. Why should folks like you and me see our lives & jobs wrecked because of an app, when Boris and his buddies can still go to work. Utter hypocrisy.
As you were..... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57879730 Who said our politicians don't listen and don't understand our lives
Justice for a change. There's nothing the PM or his motley crew cannot do via zoom and all that stuff. They isolate like the rest of us. PS: Mr Cummings, I think it's time to test your eyesight again... 300 miles or so ought to do it
Travelling from Bromley to Richmond now, I would say 50% of people are not wearing a face covering An early indicator of things collapsing tomorrow
Air con is the way from now on. All trains should have their windows taken out. That would provide plenty of fresh air. Remember that large mesh black plastic coated chicken wire we used to see a lot of in the old days? Practically indestructible that was. My dad put some fences up in our back garden using that stuff about 40 years ago. It's still there. Could have been put up yesterday. That could make a comeback on the tube - to stop idiots sticking their heads out through the open window frames and nutting oncoming trains.
The Government had better do something quickly about this; https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57878345 First Marks & Spencer. When will it be Sainsburys, Tesco, and the other huge supermarkets? If people get the notion that their grocery shop is going to be closed when they try to visit, there will be mass panic. Probably worse than we saw 16 months ago. The food supply chain cannot be disrupted by this bloody app and the stupid adherence to arbitrary rules. Abandon the 10 day Isolation policy Boris, or there will be food riots on the streets during this summer holiday. The middle of August is NOT soon enough to repeal it. End it NOW.
Boris now claims that he and Rishi Sunak "looked briefly" at the pilot scheme. He just can't stop himself from lying. He made an official announcement to the contrary! His fans don't care that he's a bare-faced liar so it seems he gets away with it every time.
