Simon Jordan hitting the nail on the head this morning. Jim White “have the premier league proved their bit to the Saudis?” Jordan “they don’t need to. The Saudis want to join the premier league. They have to prove that the piracy isn’t backed by themselves. Etc etc etc.”

like or dislike Jordan, what he says makes a lot of sense

Talksport ha s been awesome so far this morning!! Mag phoning up accusing Jordan of an anti mag agenda. Then arguing that. The Saudis don’t need to prove anything.

Seems as the Rueben's already own Newcastle racecourse and are involved with some developments in Newcastle City Centre, I think their involvement was to do more with developing land around Sid James' Park rather than owning a football club. The Saudis are probably more interested in sports washing their regime and maybe some one up manship against the Abu Dhabi lot at Man City and being arkward to the Qataris on their proxy war with them (being able to screw BEIN sports and Al Jazeera over TV rights).

In the end, the Ruebens are rich enough on their own to meet Ashley's asking price if they wanted to, and the Saudis could come to some arrangement about minor stakes and sponsorship if they were really keen on it. Also, do you not think its strange that the Ruebens brothers, who are Jewish, would be involved with the openly anti semetic Saudi Royal family regime? For years the Saudis have backed Hamas, refuse to recognise Israel and discriminated against Jews, yet the Ruebens were part of this deal?

It was so funny listening. Jordan knows his stuff. He’s not a stupid bloke. It makes absolute sense what year says about this. But, because Wraith is a mag, he won’t listen to reason. He just won’t listen to anything sensible. Trying to cut Jordan off mid sentence as he doesn’t like what he’s saying!!

all this talk about developing… They don’t own their ground do they? Still rent it off the council

That all makes sense and I can't figure out why the Ruebens were involved. I'm not sure how much land Ashley owns, around the ground, but it's not worth the bother of getting involved in a football club for.

And, as Marcus said, the stadium is a huge liability as it needs millions spending on it. They can't move because they don't own the ground so they'd have to pay demolition costs and return it as a flat side.

Hall tried to bully the council over it and they laughed at him.

Of all of the various reasons I want Covid restrictions to end, the one I want the most is to see a packed SJP letting rip when Bruce plays 'Rafa-ball' and lets the opposition have possession for 80 minutes <laugh>

Steve Bruce to @bbcnewcastle on transfers: “We’re going to still have to be patient. I know that’s awful from me but we haven’t the biggest of budgets. In the market we’re looking at - loan market in particular - we’re going to have to let the big, big clubs go to work.”

So he's keeping out of the Big, Big Market and is being forced to go it all a loan!

Just shows the mentality of your typical mag. Rafa blows a kings ransom on mainly 2nd rate players with little resale value and they all claim that they weren’t his first choice players so it’s not his fault. Bruce is forced to look at the loan market and it’s his fault and he’s a poor manager, despite getting them Wilson and ASM.

The Reubens don't need to bully the council like Sir John tried, they already have a cosy relationship with the planning and development departments, having worked closely with them on the purchase of The Monument Mall, and large parts of Pilgrim Street / Grainger Town sites. As well as owning huge tracts of land around Northumberland, Newcastle and Sunderland dog tracks ( don't know why) they are pretty much first in the queue when anything interesting comes up around Newcastle. So they must have/ have had a plan for St.James site, and I still reckon they were ready to propose a new stadium site ( which they presumably already own) to the Arabs , and take the existing stadium site into their portfolio, for their future plans. ( The demolition and return to a 'flat site' you talk about won't even bother them, it'll be all factored into the redevelopment costs) I guarantee that they've already had talks with town planners off the record about all of this, and if they've parked this proposal ( with the Arabs) it's because it doesn't include any of their interests.....as you say they are not interested in owning a football club, or they could have done this by themselves. Incidentally, the Reuben Brothers as such are probably not involved at all, they are both very old, very rich, and very much too long in tooth for this messy deal, but the younger siblings who will inherit the business are busy trying to put their own stamp on the property world, so anything is possible, but they have much bigger fish to fry than Mike Ashley's little club, and I think all the negativity around the deal will make them move on to different things, too messy to bother with, and their efforts will be more profitable elsewhere. NUFC is very much small fry to them, it'll be on the back burner for now I'm sure.

Brilliant mate, thank you so much for that.

I've a mate, in the legal world, who tells me what he can about NUFC and Ashley. I've posted quite a bit of his info and, in particular, spelled out in detail about Staveley's first failed bid. I said, a month before it happened, that Ashley was furious with her and would publicly humiliate her.

But I've been totally puzzled with the Reubens aspect. From the bits I know your comments fit like a glove. SJP isn't a Cathedral on a Hill at all, it's an absolute liability that's been tarted up to look good. The only way Newcastle could ever become 'elite' would be if they moved to a stadium like the Emirates.

The riff raff would miss pouring out of the bars and walking to the ground, or smashing the town up after a derby defeat, but the 'owners' know they'd still provide a backdrop in a new stadium at Gosforth. How could they complain if they finally got rid of the evil Count Ashley.

NUFC have been trying to leave SJP for decades, the Rubens, from what you say, could be their only way out.

Pretty much correct, the model for these Arabs to try to aim for, or better, is what Man City have done, it's very much a game of one-up-manship, so the Saudis would be honour-bound to go one better that what Man City have, or be seen as a poor relation/ second best/ **** attempt. Now if you look at the Etihad set-up, they have built a new stadium, a training stadium, 20 full size training pitches, over 10,000 new rental apartments, homes, and offices, and a massive swathe of redeveloped land which was derelict and worthless. Basically a small city in itself, but one that will generate income for Manchester City for generations. To even contemplate this at Newcastle, they would need a site so vast that there's simply nothing around the 'toon' that's even nearly big enough, even the unobtainable Town Moor wouldn't even fit the car parking area!!!
So it's basically Northumberland or bust, which would involve new metro lines to transport fans out of town to games, and huge infrastructure changes to roads etc to service any such development. Now if you were cynical enough to look at the real estate that the Reubens have been buying up over recent years, you may just be able to map out some huge bits of land, and some crucial tracts of land where road and rail links would have to be run to any new suitable sites, then the jigsaw will start to fall into place.......hey presto! The Reuben Masteplan ( without ever buying the club)

I had a Sunderland supporting mate, on their council, who said the Town Moor will never be sacrificed no matter what. He's passed away now but I don't believe they'll ever get their hands on it. The plan, at the time, was for the stadium on the Moor and another site at Scotswood for the training facilities, etc.
