I agree with this, but,I would like to see him come off his line more. It's a definate weakness he has that needs to be fixed.
I'm not sure how they are going to calculate the salary cap this season but it also depends if KLD agrees with the level of the cap, he might think it's set too high if it's set using pre covid levels. After all it is his money if the club is ran at a loss.
Talking of goalkeepers Forest paid nearly £300,000 for Shilton about 45 years ago, so that gives you some idea how important a good goalkeeper is.
I actually think that Patterson will be the first choice keeper this year. Burge on the bench and the kid from Man U is for the U23 promotion push.
It is based on the current season as far as I know. We will submit a projection of income and wages at the start. If our wages are with 95% of higher than 60% of income we will be put on a watchlist. Regularly through the season we submit updates based on revenue earned and wage costs. If we at any point appear to be heading for an overspend, even if we arent actually overspending yet, we can get a transfer embargo. Transfer fees are excluded. Ultimately if we want to we can have the highest wage bill in the league, assuming our crowds are good. Every ticket sold and every streaming pass bought helps. Every shirt we sell and concert we host helps. Whether we should have the highest wage bill is for KLD and his mgt team to work out. If we look at wages now the likes of Grigg will be a drag, unless we get him firing. He is so hard to shift because if he went to say MK Dons his wages would be a massive issue, so we would need to subsidise. I really dont want us to do that personally, either he stays or is sold. Same for others like Wright.
I think out of last 10 goalies I can only think of Vito and Jason Steele that we have paid a fee for But I'm an old bastard and may have forgot some
Getting a bit stupid now the amount of players we supposed to be in for. I know it happens every summer but this year seems to be more than normal. How long were these lists they have? Could be the press haven't a clue and are linking us to everyone or could be were knocked back regularly and we're scratching around for replacement targets. My guess is somewhere inbetween, which is still worrying.
As you say mate all guess work so pointless being worried. In an ideal world it would be great to get all our business done quickly but it never works that way especially with the financial effects of covid
Not pointless getting worried. We care so will be worried and rightly so if LJ is losing sleep! Cannot use Covid as an excuse for everything. Other clubs are getting their squads together. The time for excuses is over. The club needs to get its house in order prior to the season starting. There are a number of games before the window shuts but that would mean we're throwing points away and potentially giving an advantage to our rivals. Bottom line is if these people are as good as were led to believe they need to prove it and fast. Another season in this league is unacceptable.
We're probably building a list - players for now, players for the future. The press are assuming every link is imminent. Any decent recruitment setup would easily have ten or twelve options for each position on the pitch.
Speakman stated we had a list for championship and L1 before end of the season. There was nothing stopping them approaching players and agents the day after the playoff defeat. The fact were as light as we are is unforgivable. If we don't start well and more importantly don't finish in the top 2 heads will have to roll.
It's a calculated risk I think. We had to get the players out the door to clear the decks for incoming. I'd rather start the season with what we have than rush about signing exactly the same kind of players who have failed before.
How do you know players on those lists haven't been approached? Just because we could have approached them that early doesn't mean that they would have been either in a position to or wanted to enter into negotiations that early. Its not as simple as saying "we want to sign you" and them saying yes or no. A move from one part of the country to another brings up the same issues for footballers as it does for anyone else.
