I guess it would be easy to crab the King George with only 3 of the 6 runners scraping into the 120s. But I guess the fact that Adayar is attempting to become the first Derby winner since Galileo (20 years ago ) to follow up in the Ascot feature adds interest. I’d like to see him win convincingly from Lone Eagle to boost the 3YO form.
There is a weather warning from 2300 hours tonight (lasting 49 hours) for heavy rain and thunderstorms for the whole of Southern England. Makes you wonder what the ground will be at Ascot tomorrow afternoon. Mother Nature how cruel will you be?!?
Will soft ground benefit Adayar? If so maybe even more of an advantage. Still very difficult for me to oppose Love though who I consider to be a genuine superstar.
could be heavy going , or if missing the deluge , good to firm , i’m taking chance it’s going to be v soft , and do the menusier horse ....

The going is still currently good to firm but with showers and thunderstorms still to come who knows what the going will be come racing time. Probably make my selections and which ever way I go no doubt the weather will do the opposite.
A couple that prefer a bit of cut have been pulled this morning, so I don't think many believe there'll be a significant ground change. I think Mishrif looks overpriced at 8/1and seems versatile on ground conditions, so a small investment in his direction from me. Should be a belting race.
Monrning, all. Hope everyone well. Has to be LOVE, what a lovely, lovely, lovely name for a filly by the way, for me today in the 'King George'. Think she will have far too much class for her opponents this afternoon. The rain has so far held 'orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrf at Ascot and unless it changes significantly, in the relatively short space of time prior to the old stalls opening, to allow 'soft' into the going descriptor I really can't see the old girl getting beat. Good luck all.
Will the rain arrive at Ascot and totally change the King George going? If it does not, then expect Wonderful Tonight to drop out. It is 20 years since a Derby winner completed the double and Adayar has obvious claims if the fast ground is not a hindrance. I still have a question mark against Adayar because although he won at Epsom fair and square, I think his stablemate Hurricane Lane may be the better horse but his galloping style was unsuited to the track. So on a line through the Irish Derby winner, Lone Eagle may be the best three year old in the race. The race has been dominated by the older generations this century as many top three year old colts have gone to the Eclipse and then to York but Mishriff warmed up at Sandown with a rather ordinary performance. It is hard to escape from the fact that most of Mishriff’s best efforts have been overseas and the bookies seem quite happy to lay him. Always well regarded amongst the Ballydoyle blue bloods, Broome has got his act together this term but it is very easy to pick holes in his form. It is not so easy to crab last year’s Oaks winner Love, although she hardly beat a great field to win the Prince of Wales’ at the Royal meeting first time out. If the ground does not turn soft then I expect Love to add her name to the King George role of honour. From a betting point of view, waiting until just before the race seems to be in order because of the weather. With a reported sell out 30,000 crowd expected at York the bookies might get a caning if several of the favourites oblige in the small fields, with Mohaafeth looking nailed on in the feature Sky Bet York Stakes as Montatham is clearly there to make sure the race does not turn into a two furlong sprint. How Armory runs will give an indication of the value of the Prince of Wales’ form before the King George. However, I shall be looking to Adele Mulrennan’s other half in the 4:25 on the mare GREENGAGE, winner of four of her last five races but stepping up a couple of furlongs in distance to the two mile trip. When Mulrennan was last on her she won easily and is clearly in the form of her life. Ghadbbaan’s course and distance second last time reads well and last year’s winner Monsieur Lambrays, only 2lb higher but arguably in better form last year, have to be feared. The small fields at HQ’s teatime meeting make it easy to bypass.
Can anyone offer an explanation as to why the money seems to be down for Fahey's Blind Beggar in the 2.40 at York? Fahey says "This isn’t a bad horse but while he goes on quick ground I think he’s more effective with a bit of give. Any rain that York get would be much appreciated as he’s in deep here – although I have seen more competitive runnings of the Sky Bet Dash over the years." He's not going to get the cut he needs is he? Might have been tempted at 12s, but surely the 13/2 on offer is way too short?
13:35 Newcastle - Rich King (Gleneagles 2-y-o who caught my eye. 45,000 gns yearling. Related to many winners. Newcomer, but Ed Bethell's charges seem to be running well lately, so good chance will run well if fully tuned-up? P. J. McDonald takes the ride. 11/2 is freely-available at time of writing.) Good luck today everyone, Ascot looks a bit risky to me until the actual going for a race is known?
Over at Gowran, Mrs Harrington and Shane Foley could have a nice four timer, then again it could all go tits up. Duvet day Golden Lyric Soaring Sky Jungle Cove

At York Mohaafeth looks poor value to me in the 3.15 Race. He side-stepped the Derby because two rain drops fell on the the Epsom track and he headed to Royal Ascot instead. I have seen it said that he was sensational in the Hampton Court but it is a win that hasn't worked out well and I readily prefer Armory here despite him being a shade disappointing behind Love last time. The last time a 3YO won he York Stakes was 2006 and Mohaafeth looks short enough at Evens to me. Armory for me at 15/8. Matthew Flinders has disappointed me a few times but dropped to 7F last time he ran really well behind the specialist at the trip Safe Voyage. He was upped to 108 after that effort but gets in here off 98. I am always a bit dubious about how well horses are off in theory but it seemed his best effort in a long time. Now gelded, it is hoped that the 7F trip will be the key to rediscovering his early promise and I gave him one final go at 6/1 today. In the 3.05 Newmarket the Fav Modern Games needs to come on a bit from debut where he was 5th. I liked the look of Saga from the Gosden stable and took the chance that the well bred son of Invincible Spirit can make a winning start for the Queen. 3.15 York Armory 15/8 3.00 Ascot Matthew Flinders 6/1 3.05 Newmarket Saga 3/1 Singles and a treble.
