Paul McShane has obtained his A-licence badge and been coaching Man Utd U16s recently. Now they have signed him as a player-coach for their Under-23s as one of three registered over-age players. Utd want him to provide on-pitch training competition for their young strikers.
But late for April fool's day mate. Oh. You're not joking. Can I be the first to say that the world has gone officially mad?
I think it might be some sort of cunning plan by Man U - show the players that if they don't work hard and succeed then instead of being so well off they can comfortably retire in their early 30's they may have to make a tit of themselves trying to keep up with kids half their age in training!
I'm baffled. The idea of signing someone at that end of their career as a player coach solely dedicated to working with the young kids is genius. But Paul McShane?
I just had to google to make sure I was thinking if the same Paul McShane. Must be mates with someone still at the club.
Doesn't always follow that he had to be a brilliant footballer to coach.....in golf many golfers won majors with David Leadbetter as their coach.....the guy did nothing at a professional level player, but is a genius as a coach. Good luck to the lad, hope it works out for him
Yeah. Fair. Mourinho. AVB Etc. But they have hired him as a player/coach. I cannot believe playing alongside him, the way he used to play for us, would be to the benefit of anyone.
I remember seeing him play recently and thinking that's surely not the same McShane, the barnet was a bit of a giveaway though. I had thought he retired about ten years ago.
