Someone over on RTG has said he’s just got a new house over this way, a good sign he ain’t going anywhere
without looking back in pages ill post this from todays chronical apologies if already mentioned Sunderland have been linked with two right-backs in recent days, Exeter City's Josh Key and Nottingham Forest's Jordan Gabriel, but as yet there has been no transfer breakthrough.
Wow, just read that and all through the MoS pages attached. That 'smoking gun' email seems to show that Man City lied to the Court for Arbitration in Sport when it heard their appeal against UEFA's 2 year Champions League ban for breaching FFP rules.
Sort the back 4 out is an understatement at the moment mind. 3 (maybe 4 with cover) needed in the back 4, and a new keeper for me. They need to get their fingers out big style.
I remember everybody laughing at Brian Clough when he signed each player, but he proved one thing, it’s sometimes how good the manager is that counts.
Think there is zero chance we bring a keeper in. Burge will be no.1 and Patterson challenging with Carney as emergency backup Anyway, as last season shows, you can just flout the transfer window rules and bring in emergency keeps willy nilly
It's amazing how any signings for League one clubs are headlined as 'Sunderland target', 'Sunderland Linked' or 'pipped Sunderland to the signing of'. Our list must have been massive! Also Sunderland and Ipswich throwing money around like confetti when we haven't paid a fee yet. We must be the most quoted team in managers press conferences to take the pressure off their own lack of signings.
Just to play Devil's Advocate on that - we may well be "throwing money about" in that we are putting good bids in for players, like Key. Just none have come off yet as we aren't quite throwing enough of it
This is interesting. Lichaj now on trial with Forest again (they love him there). Would be fascinating if them signing him allowed them to get rid of Gabriel.
It's a simple case of 'Dark Forces'...agents!! I can guarantee they mention SAFC "are interested" in most dealings. Fans fall for it everytime when we've got absolutely no interest. We won't have lost out on any of our targets imo.
I do also think inevitably its an exaggeration. For example I wouldn't be surprised if we "reached out" to Piggot's agent just to understand what he was looking for etc. If he says £8k p/w that might have ended it there and then. But he can then tell people Sunderland are interested etc. Not saying that happened. But its very clear we will be going in for players that aren't first choice etc, in case those first choice targets don't come off. There will be loads of players we "go in for" that we won't get, and each one of those could "argue" that Sunderland were "beaten" to the signing, when we might not be fussed at at all. You then also have the liars that just use us to pump up wages etc, or journalists knowing click bait stories about Sunderland will get more hits than ones about Lincoln as we have more fans etc. So with those things combined, it actually becomes a surprise when you see signings happening at our level that DON'T reference us
Good post mate. The media are constantly looking for something to fill their ever increasing available time. So,if we are to make a preliminary contact about a player to his agent.......a tentative enquiry, which ends immediately we receive a reply.....this can be promoted as "Sunderland are interested",which then continues all the way through their hitherto vacant copy, into something they think people will read, which,of course, agents and players are happy with,as they can use it as leverage in a genuine deal they may have going on with someone else. When you consider it,it's pathetic, deceptive greed.......which just about describes the world we live in,...if I'm feeling low, which I am!
For me the total giveaway is after player's have signed for their club, they come out with the " I had interest and could have gone to etc, etc,.....SAFC" That as far as I've seen hasn't happened, there you have it.
