Good Morning. It's Tuesday 27th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds fans growing anxious With just over two weeks until Leeds kick off their new season, and rivalry at Old Trafford, many Leeds fans are becoming anxious that the club have not been more active in the transfer market. Mark Jackson will have no complaints though. Victor Orta have been busy selecting 'the cream of the crop' as they face the elite within their respective age groups. First team activity has been slow though. Whilst they have fulfilled their main objective by bringing in a quality left back to replace Alioski, (and nobody is going to whinge about Firpo) activity remains low, even though speculation continuous to be rife Whilst the club are excited about landing Norwegian U21 shot stopper Kristoffer Klaesson, he is unlikely to have any impact on the forthcoming season, with Meslier in the form he is in! Conor Gallagher would be another underwhelming signing according to most Whites on social media. Parent club Chelsea have made it clear that they have no intention of a permanent switch, leaving fans wondering why bother develop another Ben White? please log in to view this image Roberts - We've got to push for some European spaces In a recent interview on LUTV, Tyler Roberts has revealed that he and his fellow team mates have ambitions about pushing on this forthcoming season, for European places. “All of the boys will agree we've got to push for some European spaces. I don't think we're ever going to be a type of team that looks back and says 'we did well to get where we were, but will this season be a bit different?' "We just look up and push for better than we're doing.” “It was good to get that experience of the Euros and to be in the environment, but I am back now and ready to go again. “The magnitude of the tournament, you know how big the Euros are and the World Cup, but until you go and you’re part of it, it’s a whole different level. “I realised when I was there the whole talk around Wales, England, everything was the Euros and I was actually there. It was a crazy experience and one I was blessed to be a part of." Do Leeds have the squad to push for a European place? please log in to view this image
Morning all The comments about Gallagher not being good enough is a joke. If Bielsa wants him, hes good enough. He played good football in the Championship and how many loan players have done that for us in the Championship (Until Bielsa came) he played good football in the Premier League is a relegated team. He has skill, pace, flair and tough tackling box to box player. One other thing social media isnt the country and thats why Labour keep losing. Fair to say social media isnt all Leeds fans
The thing is two weeks before the start of last season, we had signed Gelhardt, not counting Meslier and Costa (who we already had on loan the previous season). Rodrigo, Koch, joined during that time, and Llorente and Raphinha joined after the season commenced. The season before we brought in White and Costa in on loan early, but Meslier and Nketiah both joined after the season started, there were no marquee signing that season. In Bielsa's first season we brought in Bamford, Douglas and Harrison less than a week before the season started, up to that point we had signed Lewis Baker and the Chelsea goalkeeper on loan. So given that our track record for the last 3 seasons has been quite late permanent signings, the fact that we have signed Firpo more than a month before the season commences goes against the norm, and whilst I would still like another permanent signing of note, there is plenty of time available even with the level of fitness that Bielsa requires.
I suppose in a way we can look upon Rodrigo as being a marquee signing for the upcoming season, as last season was a bit of a write off for him. Started showing his undoubted quality towards the end. This time he'll be totally at it and up to Bielsaball speed and awareness from the off. He'll also be determined to play himself back into the Spain team for the World Cup, which can only be to Leeds' benefit.
Aski has a point and we need to remember what Orta said a few weeks ago. Summary in no particular order: We have an idea of who we want We will hope to get as much done by the end of June as we can This will be the most difficult window yet due to covid and selling club finances We expect one fast deal another before season starts and we could see one very late To me that says Junior will be done and a midfielder should get done. Maybe a late deal is because of the Olympics as there are players away in Japan? There are also issues around French Tv money, the number of freebies going to major clubs also impacting players who should have sold…. Its like a chain reaction sometimes as a player needs to move to one club which then means another player at that club can leave, which in turn allows another to move. We could be in a chain, a slow moving chain because of covid
I remember Kinnear saying a couple of years ago on the Talking Shutt podcast, that they had identified Barry Douglas as our number one target for left back, however because they didn't think Wolves would sell for a competitive fee, the club were pursuing other options. Wolves then went and spent £20m on Castro, which gave us the belief that Douglas would become available, and hence we went and pursued him. Given that Euro's will have delayed a number of clubs pursuing signings and as Doc mentions players being away on Olympic duty, incomings for most Premier League clubs have been rather sparse. Apart from the newly promoted clubs, trying to bolster their squads, there aren't that many signings that could be classed as marquee by any club
Swansea City have held talks with Jody Morris about becoming their next head coach, with the ex-Chelsea man already sounding out players to follow him to South Wales, Football League World understands.
Leif Davies joins Bournemouth on a season long loan with a view to make it permanent next Summer. Fella you need to show everyone what you can do now. Good luck
Good move for him and us. He couldn’t get in over Dallas and Alioski last season so not going to do that against Firpo and Dallas this season. Seen a few moaning on twitter about him going with only 1 or 2 options at LB but I completely get it, we don’t need 3 LBs. Huggins is also probably ahead of him now and if not we’ll bring another youth LB. Some Leeds fans seem to be loving a moan about everything at the moment.
Bielsa gave him a chance around the 1st team and obviously hasn't seen enough improvement from him and decided to let him go. If Bournemouth doesn't work out for him his next job should be in computer games as he's never off twitch playing live events lol. seriously though good luck to him. time for him to play now and sort his football career out. if that's not going to be with us so be it. In Bielsa we trust !
Totally agree. Great tweet from someone today. Saw a tweet earlier that said ‘anxiety over lack of transfer activity at Elland Road’ Simple fact is if Bielsa didn’t think he had a squad to keep progressing the club on the field he would walk. He’s not walking. And if Marcelo isn’t anxious then none of us should be.
Problem with Leif Davies seems to be he couldnt master that final 10% he needed in transition. He can tackle better than Dallas and Alioski, he was faster than both of them too but his transition play was too slow. Remember all those Bielsa screams of Very Good Davies, very good…. Well he couldnt grasp that last bit so failed to progress. Maybe Huggins will be retained now because he can tackle, is fast and does work higher up the field
Always a shame when a youth player that everyone has high hopes for doesn’t quite make it. I thought Bielsa thought very highly of him so any lack of progress must be down to him not putting enough in or he’s been caught up by those developing at a different rate.
Leif Davies has just thanked Kalvin for making his mind up for him and putting him in touch with Lewis Cook. Cooky told Kalvin to tell him he will love it down there and he would look after him.
Only full match and highlights after the game on LUTV, although the goals will be shown on various platforms like twitter as they go in.
