I doubt he'd say anything, if he was aware of such a deal. He's basically a club mouthpiece, without disrespecting him.

Totally agree. The first thing I thought when I saw the reported "plan B" was 'Baldini spending the Bale money'. I've no problem if plan b is another, individual player of similar talent. But assuming 3 average players can compensate for 1 top class one is a mistake we've made far too many times. It's like trying to plug a burst dam with 3 boulders because you can't afford the one big boulder that actually fits the hole. Leaks are inevitable and eventually, the 'fix' will give way and a few years down the line your dam will be back to square one.

I share these fears but I think this is a problem having a PL-experienced manager in the dug out can provide a huge part of a solution to.

Going in to a new season with a pretty toxic fanbase plus possibly losing our best player plus a high turnover of players plus a manager yet to learn the PL ropes would have been a total disaster. Not necessarily in the long run but next season would have been another write-off.

Nuno's PL experience should stand him in good stead as he'll already have an eye for which players are ready to be thrown in the deep end and which still need time.

We should publicly issue a statement asking how much less Phil Foden will cost next summer...

Foden must be cheaper, he couldn't even get into the England team consistently.

Didn't see him stepping up to take a penalty in the final, that's obviously £50m off the price tag...

Yup, he’ll be another year older and another year less on his contract so definitely won’t be worth as much

Yup. So City should sell him this window for what they will sell him for next window, else this window will pass them by and they'll have to sell him next window for next window's lower fee.

The most interesting point about Gil in the Spain Austraila game was that he came in in exactly the situation he's likely to begin at Spurs: as an impact sub against a bunkered team. What happened was that at first Australia stayed where the were. But he was causing so much trouble on the left, they moved wider to mark him closely. Then Spain scored on the right. So it may be that Gil may check an important box, which is being useful against teams that sit back.

Chelsea look set to mess our transfer plans up twice in one fell swoop: first by signing Jules Kounde, and secondly by including Kurt Zouma in the deal meaning that they're less likely to follow up their interest in Sanchez

Because what's a summer transfer window without Chelsea lobbing a few wrenches into the works?

It’s the key skill when playing against such teams. Players who can work the ball in tight spaces are the only way to break them down, unless you can guarantee a 30 yard screamer every game.

From what little I’ve seen of Gil live, and from the obligatory YouTube videos, he looks like exactly that kind of player. His movement and touch are so quick and sharp with the ball at feet. I think we’re going to enjoy watching him.

Personally don't rate Zouma at all so I'm pleased to be dodging that bullet.

As for Chelsea pissing on other peoples' parades? Well it's been that way since Abramovich took over so no surprises really. Tbh nothing has phased me since Willian was greeted at Heathrow by a delegation from Spurs only to be pictured having a medical at Stamford Bridge 2 hours later.

We can't match them financially, the player isn't interested, move on. Far, far too many windows have passed us by where we've wasted unjustifiable time and effort putting all our eggs in one tenuous basket only to face disappointment at the 11th hour. Dybala, Fernandes, Mane, Moutinho, Hazard, Berahino (ffs remember that drama?! <laugh>), Martial to name but a few.

The problem isn't them signing Kounde, as I predicted he'd bat his eyelashes at whichever sugar daddy matched his opinion of himself very limited number of clubs he was willing to listen to offers from, it's the fact Sevilla were willing to sign Sanchez yet, if Zouma is included in Chelsea's deal for Kounde, they likely won't need Sanchez

Oh well, I guess Romano et al have a way to stretch out Romero headlines for another week...

Talk of Sissoko potentially following in Toby’s footsteps and joining a club in the Middle East.

We’re also being linked to Aaron Ramsay…

This 100%. Not a bad player, but no obvious improvement on Sanchez. Similar style defenders with similar faults.
