agree with all this. Nervous as hell about the reaction our players are going to get if we go down to Wigan. Plenty are writing off the season NOW, two weeks before kick off. God knows what they’ll be like when we actually start losing.
Aye its staggering mate. We wanted good, sensible, long term owners with a vision, now its all ****ed as they aren’t pandering and signing ****e for over the top money? We let a 30-goal striker go cos he wanted daft money. Absolutely correct decision. Maybe we taking a while as our targets are a cut above what Ipswich and Wigan are signing, the only one from those 2 clubs I’d have absolutely been keen on is Chaplin. I would have taken Peacock-Farrel mind great signing for Wednesday that.
I totally agree, but its kind of a perfect storm at the moment. Us down here for our 4th season, after years of being **** on. Us moving slowly in the transfer market. Other teams been taken over and splashing the cash. Its no wonder fans are nervous. I might end up regretting getting me and the family season cards, for the first time since 2015/16. ITHICS
They have got majorly unlucky with the timing mind. If it had been the teams around us last season, this season, people wouldn’t be going as crazy. It’s because this season seems so hyper competitive. I don’t think they could have predicted that Ipswich and Wigan would suddenly be so cash rich, and that Sheff Wed would find some cash once relegated. I don’t know if KLD knew how hard it would be to carry out his logical plan. I certainly think Speakman and LJ are finding it harder than they expected / hoped.
I get being nervous mate, but I don’t get the full meltdown. We have to treat the new ownership as a new start, we got exactly what we wanted. They have finance, they have vision. We can’t tie what they are trying to do, and starting to do, to the last 3 years cos that will kill momentum before we have any. We have a history of defeatism. We always have. We had it under Keane, we had it under Reid, folk can’t say it’s just been last few years, if they do they haven’t been listening, haven’t been in the SOL, it’s always been there. Kenwyne got it, Sess got it, Anton got it, Richardson got it. It’s not just the ****e. See how long it takes for McFadzean’s replacement scapegoat to be chosen. Be before half time first game of season. I want nowt more than us to get out of this league but I’ll be backing the new regime to the ****ing hilt until we at least 15 games on.
Quite honestly I don’t blame him. It may change tomorrow I know with a signing but currently he is a manager in touching distance of season kick off, already under pressure with no full backs and a thirty goal striker down. Yes Grigg, AOB, Wright and others were expensive balls ups bit they aren’t his issue. It’s good we have a plan, for the long term and it’s far from finished - I’m not losing it at all, but I entirely get that he will be worried.
Yeh. And I don’t think anybody was lied to or over promised anything. I just don’t think anybody at the club knew quite how hard it would be this window. There’s no need for panic but it’s very clearly not gone to plan.
I mean we’d be idiots to not see that we are behind schedule and we’ve not got in what we’d like by this stage. We’d be daft not to have concerns, but my god other clubs have it far worse, the window is still open, we will get things done. The lack of any noteable goal scorer links does mildly terrify me mind.
I think loans into league 1 are going to go crazy starting next week. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see a few into us. Whilst we don’t have much cash they’re a good way of bringing in quality without tying us down to long contracts, allowing us to then sign more long term players next season when our sustainability looks better. Can have 5 loans in a match day squad. So realistically we still have space for 4 loans if we want them.
Aye, but only upto a point mate. We are league 1 so highly unlikely we are going from choice 1 being trippier to choice 3 being some lad from forest u23. Much more likely we are going from say Liverpool u23 to forest u23. Plus if anyone doesnt think Pritchard is a mile above our standard I give up. There isnt a signing in l1 this season with his pedigree. People are getting bent out of shape because we are balancing the books. Thank god we are. High time we demanded pay based on performance. God knows we have paid top dollar for years and have failed. We seem to have become the most depressed group in the last hour, god knows why. All I see is money being pumped in yet all of a sudden people panicking because rumours are we are on a budget. Time will tell...
But that is our job as fans. We need to get behind them when the chips are down. If we cry like bairns for going behind on day 1 it wont be a Sunderland crowd i recognise. It will be a pathetic bunch of spoilt bairns.
I'll be backing new owners a lot more than 15 games. Long term vision will not be seen until they've had chance to implement it, that's going to take a while (and they have even said so) The entire structure was stripped down to nothing. Yes they have a few recruitment ppl in now, but until its fully up and running and we start seeing the exact results we want to see it will take a while. It's ****ing optimistic as hell to think they'd solve all the issues in 6 months, even if that is what we'd all like to see. It's frustrating and difficult to accept as fans, but I wish we'd be more realistic I'm sure we'll see more players through the door, but we going have to be patient We've splashed the cash before and gotten no where, let's see where a sensible (and probably frustrating, infuriating at times) approach will get us.
For a few years I've wanted us to be smarter financially and think longer term, promote the youth etc. but it is gonna be brutal if we have to take more medicine this season. We have to get it right if we're planning long term, they can't afford to fail. I'm actually quite optimistic about our attack, it's just the defence could be a right mess with no full backs and Doyle looking like our best centre half at 17 years old.
Do they understand just how burned out we are? This board has some of the most dedicated fans and you can tell the concern even on here. Lets say the average ticket is 15 quid. The difference between less than 20K with no promotion this year, and 40K+ plus with promotion is if my maths is right is pushing 7 million a season just in ticket sales not counting all the rest. We've got to get those 4/6 new players. Even with a big overdraft we need to be taking the longer view or risk losing all that future revenue. We are all just waiting to buy in to something good, but we also need a reason to believe. I still think they will, but god we need it.
I think as a fan base, we have become the most depressed group in the last 4 years, and therein lies the problem. We haven’t even really improved year on year whilst in league one, mainly down to Donald and his cronies. Some fans thought KLD would throw millions at it, well they are going to be the most disappointed ones. I didn’t expect that and we also don’t know the clubs financial status and what we can afford within the rules. I did expect to see an influx of players before now though. As already intimated, the SOL will be an awful place to be if Wigan turn us over and to be in a position with currently no recognised full backs on the books isn’t really ideal preparation. We know the window is still open, we know that whatever happens in the first few games isn’t a reflection on how the season will go. However we also know what happens when fans show their discontent. We’ve done our bit, we’ve renewed and accepted the 10% or so increase, it’s up to those in charge now. I just hope we aren’t having the same discussion sometime in September. The problem is mate, we have heard all of this, “the window isn’t shut”, “biding our time”, for a few years now. There is no harm in discussing what we have done to date, because whatever happens between now and the end of August is an an unknown and offers no guarantees. BTW, I’m not a Johnson fan, but have been impressed by the way he is setting us up to play and with a few good additions, we might look strong. The biggest problem for me will be finding that goal scorer
Just reading between the lines.. this Gallgher kid from Liverpool could be a money buy rather than a loan imo.
