if this article is right its interesting. He hasn't been offered a 3-year contract extension but Ashley has the option to add a year on every year so he is always still on a 3-year contract as long as he is doing okay. Which apparently he is since Jones came in.

A lot of debate these past 24 hours or so about the Steve Bruce contract situation.

A newspaper ‘exclusive’ on Friday reported / claimed that Mike Ashley was awarding Bruce a new three year deal.

Understandably, Newcastle fans devastated at the thought of Steve Bruce potentially going to be NUFC boss for another three years, or even longer…

After Friday night’s 2-0 friendly win at Burton, Steve Bruce was asked about the claims of him set to sign a new three year contract after these alleged talks with the club.

Steve Bruce though, says that these claims are absolute rubbish and that no talks have taken place, never mind a new contract offered.

Steve Bruce:

“I honestly do not know where it [newspaper exclusive about a new contract] came from, it was news to me.”

The NUFC Head Coach was then asked to confirm that as things stand, will he be out of contract next summer, after the conclusion of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

Steve Bruce:

“No.”

A bit of a conundrum…

On 17 July 2019, Newcastle United officially announced (see below), Steve Bruce had agreed an ‘initial three year contract’ to be NUFC Head Coach.

So if there has been no new contract agreed these past two years and there has been no talks this summer about a new deal, how come Steve Bruce is not set to leave St James Park next summer after his three years?

Well, Bruce’s friend and big media ally Luke Edwards looks to have the inside track.

Responding to the contract debate, the man from The Telegraph explained via his Twitter account that his understanding is…

That when Steve Bruce agreed his ‘initial three year’ deal, it wasn’t just a straightforward three year contract.

Instead, Edwards revealed that his understanding is that a three year deal was agreed BUT that after the end of each season, another year is automatically added on. So in effect, Steve Bruce never has less than a two year contract and that as of 17 July 2021, Bruce was once again back on a three year contract.

So there you have it, we have Steve Bruce on a never ending contract, at least that is unless Mike Ashley decides to get rid of him, which is unlikely even if relegated, as Steve Bruce will say and do anything to back up the owner, no matter how ridiculous or embarrassing it sounds to media and fans. Or alternatively of course, if new owners come in and sack him, which hopefully is a likely scenario in the near future…please!!!
