Yep, times have changed ... "On 1 November 1666 farm worker Abraham Morten gasped his final breath - the last of 260 people to die from bubonic plague in the remote Derbyshire village of Eyam. Their fate had been sealed four months earlier when the entire village made the remarkable decision to quarantine itself in an heroic attempt to halt the spread of the Great Plague." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-35064071
I'm currently isolating in the bedroom with covid, whilst the rest of the family are stuck in the remainder of the house and we're all hoping they can avoid catching it. I've had both jabs, but still managed to get it. I'm very glad that I've had the jabs, as otherwise I'm sure I'd have been a lot worse than I am, which fortunately is no worse than having a moderately bad cold. I've no idea exactly where I've caught it, but we were up in Newcastle last week for my son's graduation, so I expect I've stood too close to some horse punching, unwashed, non mask wearing Mag idiot. Masks don't do much to protect you from getting it, unless it's a proper industrial/medical class filtered one, and they certainly don't cause you to catch anything, but they do reduce the chace of you passing it on if you've got it and don't realise. If someone I've been near to had of worn one, I'd maybe not be stuck in a bedroom for 10 days.
Hope you get well soon. When our lass and daughter had it I thought me and my son were nailed in to get it from what I'd read about how contagious it is but we were negative all the way through. Did a few lateral flow tests as well. She was double jabbed well before she caught it as well.
He's right as rain now, still a bit of a cough but full of cheek and arguing so a clear sign he's better :-D He's passed it on to me like, so that was nice of him
so happy to hear that we need the next generation of supporters in good health to carry on the tradition, and hopefully back in the premiership fighting for European honours, you with your son cheering on
Am in pretty much same situation, albeit my Son caught it at school and passed it on to me. They are all coming out of isolation tomorrow, I have another week to go :-(
Falling actually - the 7 day average has gone from 46461 9 days ago, to 28272 today Still very high of course, but feels like we might be through the peak - next week will tell as it will be 14 days since "freedom day"
Good luck with it. I'm on day 7, and feeling pretty much fine now. Because they got tested after I had my positive PCR test, the rest of the family get a day longer than me before they're free, so I may have to stay in the extra day, else risk surviving covid just to be stabbed by the wife
I'm encouraging the 3 of them to get out and about tomorrow/next week etc - no point us all staying cooped up. Will be climbing the walls by next Sat
I've just spent the last few days back and forth to Cheltenham General where Mrs Smug was admitted with blood poisoning, probably from a tick bite she had, on her face, in France. (She's home tonight and fine.) While she was having examinations and bloods I'd go out for some fresh air. I got talking to the security bloke who was also directing the ambulances as they came in. He'd radio the wards to find out who had capacity. Almost every other call was 'Yeah, another positive, where do you want them?' It's my only first hand contact with this virus and it was frightening.

After weeks of no news, and 5 weeks after my first supposed appointment, just found out this morning that I final have a date for the vaccine. Big problem..............the first vaccine is the chinese Sinovac, followed by AstraZenica 3 weeks later. I'm in a quandary do I bite the bullet and take this chinese thing, or tell them to stick it. My first question was, If they have AZ why not wait and just have that 3 weeks later? The answer was that they might not have enough for two vaccines.......................Not sure what to do.....any thoughts? There have just been 181 cases in a workers camp about three miles from where I live in Hua Hin Thailand.
The first thing to say is that being offered any vaccine is going to be better than having none. The Chinese one is from what I understand, the least effective of any of them, but in combination with the AZ one it may work better. At the very least, if it doesn't offer much protection from catching covid, it's going to reduce the severity of it considerably. I've had 2 AZ jabs and still caught it, but it's only been mild. The big question is, what's the alternative? If you turn it down, are you going to be offered something else?
Thanks guys for your replies, have almost decided to get it, but what happens when I return to UK? Will I have to quarantine?
