Fair play mate, horses for courses as they say. I found him to be a narcissistic twat.

 

There was a point a few years ago where I was getting bombarded with requests to ban @West WindsR from the Chelsea board by certain folk, most of whom no longer frequent our board.
I think he could be a bell end at times, but I never really saw him do anything particularly egregious enough to warrant a ban, except being a QPR fan, which, in an ideal world would be cause enough for total internet ban

Covid vaccine refuser died after terrible mistake - partner

A man who died with Covid after refusing to be vaccinated made a "terrible mistake" which put his family at risk, his partner has said.

Leslie Lawrenson, 58, died at his home in Bournemouth, Dorset, on 2 July.

His partner Amanda Mitchell, 56, who was seriously ill with Covid at the same time, says he thought the vaccines were too "experimental".

She's told the Stephen Nolan programme on BBC Radio 5 live: "I feel incredibly foolish. Les died unnecessarily."

Amanda says her partner, a University of Cambridge graduate, decided against having a coronavirus jab after reading material on social media.

She says: "It was a daily thing that he said to us - 'you don't need to have it, you'll be fine, just be careful'."

Not sure I'd whole heartedly blame social media, yes there is a lot of ridiculous stuff out there, but it's also down to whom you choose to believe, whom you choose to follow on outlets with any degree of intelligence.

Many posters on this social media outlet, highlighted when they had their first and second jabs, since jabbing initially took place. It's been spoken about openly any side affects people have had, after the first or second dose, along with some personal stuff about their own medical conditions. So there was no reason to doubt the vaccine, we were living proof and double jabbed.

We could count on one hand, the number of anti vaxxers on this forum, two! Sadly one of those is no longer with us, but was removed from the forum by then. Everyone else couldn't get the jab quick enough.

We've only got Aber left, and anyone that takes his views seriously must be smoking some strange kind of mushrooms.

This isn’t an echo chamber though mate. He obvs spent time in echo chambers of conspiracy theorists. Let’s not forget how riled and aggressive he got on this very thread when his views on this issue were challenged. He eventually asked for an account deletion after what, 3 or 4 flounces on this issue before that? That showed that he wasn’t used to discussing this issue with anything other than like minded biffs, who just offered each other confirmation bias. I’d wager his YouTube consumption was also a factor in his disappearance down the rabbit hole.

 

Makes you wonder, did he actually believe that horseshit he was spouting back in November about the US election? I always suspected he was just Keking about, and Cambridge graduate and all that, he didn't really believe it. **** me though, if he was prepared to believe the Anti-Vax ****e and put himself and his family at risk....

He'll not be the first intelligent idiot to meet a grisly end before all this over, sadly.

Yeah. For me I just wish people would understand, if you follow someone on any social media outlet, you are likely to start seeing stories or people that will agree with your views. Only clear way I can explain what I mean is if I see a new guitar I fancy buying, all the adverts I start seeing will be about that same guitar.

Information often works the same way, it's like telling the difference between a left winger and a right winger, by the media outlets they read. It's about how to get that balance. Problem is people love a negative story, they love being angry, it gives them something to write about. Whereas I chose not to focus on the individual(s), but the overall solution to the problem.

So for example, I'm old, if I die it don't matter, I've had my time. So even if they want to call me a test dummy, it's fine, if I die I save a young persons life, if I don't die I become living proof the vaccine is ok. It's also gaining the postive attributes from what is happening, like me seeing people on ventilators, do I want that tube shoved down my neck, no I do not! So i even gave up smoking. HiaG was a university graduate ffs.

It's a mare trying to understand human behaviour sometimes.

But imo that's also why social media has made the situation worse because tbose very ppl are the ones who are susceptible to being manipulated. And all too often, perfectly rational ppl are willing to buy into the conspiracies and even take it further into the real world.

One recent example of this I noticed was that of the folk aggressively hounding Prof Witty outside his home. If you look at the individuals, they're not some bunch of hippy, emo, bohemian radicals. They look like every day folk.

In the past the audience gathered from smaller circles in face to face meet ups and introductions so you could generally tell the demographic, but social media has cut through all that and is reaching and subverting ppl who in the past would never have engaged in these crackpot ideologies.

 

I had nothing good to say about HIAG at the end of his time on here so I have avoided saying anything as I didn't wanna be a hypocrite or upset those who liked him.
I am still of that opinion.

But the issues raised by his partner is interesting and very sad.

For me there is only one political "fact".
Hatred/abuse/scapegoating of people for the colour of their skin, their religion, their nationality, their sex or who they do and don't sleep with in unacceptable and is never OK.

Everything else is open for debate.

The Internet can be fantastic.
I love this forum. I find it to be like a pub or social club. Always someone to chat to, have a laugh with, piss off etc and some that you really enjoy spending time with.

I also like sharing my photos on Instagram.

However it fascinates and worries me that grown arsed adults can not grasp that they should check anything they hear on the net.
I taught my kids that they should check information by using various and varied sources.

This is the **** side of the net. There is a serious lack of critical thinking and the ability to debate with others of a different opinion is almost non existent.

This sorry episode is further proof of that for me.
