When Ann Cryer tried to bring abusers in her Yorkshire seat to justice, she was shunned by police, social services and imams.

In 2002, when she was Labour MP for Keighley, Cryer became the first public figure in Britain to talk out about allegations of "young Asian lads" grooming underage white girls in the West Yorkshire town. As a result, she was shunned by elements of her party, a panic button was installed in her house and Nick Griffin stood against her for the far-right British National party (BNP), claiming that she was not doing enough to protect young white girls.

Yet no one wanted to know. Cryer said she had "constant" meetings with West Yorkshire police and social services, only to be told there was no point trying to mount prosecutions. She claimed: "They found constant excuses not to do anything. You would think it would be clear-cut – these girls were too young to consent – but police kept saying it wouldn't get to trial because these girls wouldn't give evidence," she said. "They thought these lads were their boyfriends. They thought they were going to get married. But no. Most of these lads were already married to a cousin from Pakistan."

Frustrated that neither police nor social services wanted to help, Cryer tried a different tack. In parliament, she worked with then home secretary David Blunkett to make grooming a sexual offence and to encourage courts to accept third-party evidence in cases where a vulnerable victim would not come to court.

In Keighley, she tried to get the Pakistani community on side after learning that the News of the World had offered the seven mothers £1,000 to tell their story. "I thought, if this happens, knowing the way the News of the World would handle it, it would cause chaos and ruin any sort of race relations that we had. We could have race riots, the works."

So she asked a friend, a Muslim councillor of Pakistani heritage, to approach the elders at the mosque with a list of 35 names and addresses of the alleged perpetrators. "He said to the imams, 'Ann Cryer would like you to go around to these families and explain that this behaviour is totally un-Islamic.' But the upshot was that the elders allegedly said, 'Go back to Ann Cryer and tell her it's nothing to do with us.' "

Apsana Begum: Labour MP cleared of fraudulent housing claims
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-58024457

"She later moved into a different property with her then-partner Ehtashamul Haque without informing the council, where she lived for more than two years.

Ms Begum claims Mr Haque was "controlling and coercive" and took over her finances.

During this period, bids for housing were made in Ms Begum's name. She denied making the bids.

"I'm shocked to see these records," she told the court."

If she didnt make the claims then surely somebody should be prosecuted for making the claims and pretending to be her.

    The European
    - Has a bloated puce nose that suggests he's an alcoholic, probably because he has to drink to cope with reality
    - Has more chins than Duncan's phonebook
    - Has tiny Beadle hands
    - Has a hunched back (no doubt because he spends all day browsing the dark web for Russian child pornography)
    - Has a ridiculous receding hairline but is too hubristic to simply shave his head, which serves merely to highlight his insecurities
    - Wears **** shoes that look like they're from the 1600s
    - Wears a t-shirt that's three sizes too small, probably because he's too tight to buy a new one and too lazy to lose weight
    - Is so psychologically-warped that he remains unperturbed by a man cutting off his hand whilst talking with him

    The Briton
    - Understands the concept of self-sacrifice and is willing to do so
    - Is evidently invulnerable to pain
    - Has a perfectly polished bonce that serves as a beacon for others, guiding the way to liberty
    - Goes about his day with joyful abandon
    - Wears normal shoes
    - Has a cool saw, like a real man

    Seems about right <ok>

    Rule, Britannia!

Just a few problems with the research. Firstly there is an assumption of abundant workforce, which is not borne out by real demographics. Secondly if people can work from home you can save money by hiring people to work from home in India or Poland a lot cheaper. The actual number of people that were able to work from home is a lot less than the media coverage might suggest so the only real way to have that mythical work life balance is to work less and have more time off, so hourly wage rates would have to rise.

If your business is something that thrived on collaboration between workers in the office that natural benefit of the workplace is lost; even if you are inspired to get your kitchen updated!

Many of the people that were able to work from home are the public sector jobsworths who make a career of counting paperclips and retiring on a gold plated pension. Their unions will make sure they get the home office kitted out at the taxpayers’ expense.

What you overlook there is that creating wage inflation makes products and services more expensive, thereby driving other people to demand higher wages. This process has a name: inflation. If it is allowed to get out of control then you end up where we were in the 1970s.

How ironic that a Conservative government could be responsible for economic Armageddon because the Prime Minister has gone Magic Money Tree, promising everybody everything just like the Corbyn manifesto did in 2019. We all know politicians lie about Net Zero and Zero Carbon because they won’t be around by 2050 but all that “levelling up” rubbish is undeliverable hokum. This government certainly is not very conservative yet some cretins think that it is capable of running a totalitarian state.

Those are well known issues, and they have been addressed in many areas. It's not something that would work for all, but there is no doubt that a better work life balance improves productivity in areas of employment where it is feasible.

I thought Wee Jimmy McKrankie had everyone properly locked down so they should not be out visiting their dealers. It is no wonder that deprivation is seen as a major factor – after you have spent all your benefits on a stash, you are skint and skinned.

Watching McKrankie’s Political Broadcasts every day on BBC Jockland would drive anyone to drugs.

Harold? You mean Henry... otherwise, you are right: two peas in a pod, although the dominant one is a slightly different shade.

Kamala Harris has become the most unpopular US vice president six months into an administration since at least the 1970s, according to polls.

Alarmed Democrat strategists are grappling with the Vice President's floundering poll numbers which show she is now "underwater," meaning more Americans disapprove, than approve, of her job performance.

One of the most concerning elements for the White House is Ms Harris's unpopularity among young people.

Nicola Sturgeon nightmare: Norway snubbed independence as country has 'loyalty to London'.

"Norwegians are very fond of the idea of Britain. They look back at the war with loyalty towards London, where our government and our royal family were located. It's very difficult to conceive of Scotland as detached from the UK."

Nicola Sturgeon's independence plans could be threatened as polls suggest support is waning in Scotland. A Panelbase poll in June found just 48 percent of people - excluding the don't knows - would support independence if a referendum were held.
