Thank you I hate to say it but I’ve got this strange feeling called optimism. I usually expect the worst and then am extra happy when we play well. Something very special happened to us from January, just hope it continues.
There are definite reasons for optimism. I'm particularly impressed with Stefan who reminds me of our mid field maestros of the past especially Buszacky and Ale Faurlin (hopefully with no third party complications!). Does he have the flare of the Magical Moroccan? Probably not BUT he makes up for that with consistency and application. Others are equally important such as Willock and Chair. The strike force is rocking! Enough said. The pairing of Dickie and deWijs is formidable and Dieng is the best keeper we've had for a while. There must be a note of caution. When we were first promoted, there was talk on the old BBC 606 thread of us playing in Europe, top six finish in the PL etc. When one gets a bloody nose, one would be wise to learn from that! At the moment I am glad we will unlikely ever be looking over our shoulder at the drop zone for this season. Unlikely but NOT impossible. A top 10 finish would be great and progression from our last couple of seasons. If we had a sniff at top six that would be amazing with perhaps another day at Wembley. Top two? Let's review that possibility 10 games in. We can see from the odds people got for promotion bets that the bookies don't fancy us for that just yet. Let's hope we can prove them wrong but until then my feet are firmly on the ground.

From the moment he made his first run back to tackle last Saturday I was in love. His goal was amazing. If he stays fit he will be win us games. But will he be good in matches like last season Barnsley home and away. No. We need a player who can play defensive RB still.... I thought that might be Field, now injured...maybe it is Ball. perhaps it is Kakay. That defensiveness in difficult matches is all we are missing
Arsenal have apparently paid £50 mill for Ben White. Never even heard of him, is he as good as any of our new signings?
Great Post, exactly the right balance of optimism vs expectation vs reality. Undoubtedly we are in for another Covid affected season one way or another and we don't really know which way things are going to go with crowds back in at every ground. On balance I'd say a top 10 finish would be a good result but a push for top 6 would be fantastic.
I don't disagree with you in a way - especially if at the end of the season we can sell one of Dickie / Willock / Chair for £10m plus, and re invest as sensibly as we have done in the last 18 months, and continue to strengthen as much of the rest of the division struggles with FFP / COVID. BUT I'm also glad that Warburton has been more ambitious than you and I in the LFW interview and the Open All Rs pod. He's spoken openly about a higher league finish and a higher total points score than last year being the minimum target, and he wasn't afraid to talk about the playoffs. I like him having more ambition than us, and it not being totally crackers either.
It's great if the squad and manager are full of confidence and aiming high. I really don't know what to expect, I do think we can genuinely feel more optimistic than we have for years but God knows what's realistic.
Changed my mind, we look really flipping good. Is this what it looks like when a team gels? And this is without Johansen.
