Leeds legend Terry Cooper has sadly passed away today. He was 77.

He joined the Whites in 1961 as an apprentice, before turning professional a year later. Over his 13 year stay, he clocked up 351 appearances, scoring seven times, the most famous being the winner against Arsenal in the 1968 League Cup final at Wembley.

Cooper played a massive role in the Revie Era. During his time at Elland Road, Cooper won the First Division title, the FA Cup, two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups and twenty England caps

There were some players who didnt get the International credit they deserved and we had 2 at Leeds. Norman Hunter and Terry Cooper, who both had way too few caps due to the Southern posh bloke who looked down south rather than up north. Recognised as the best left back in the world alongside West Germany’s Karl-Heinz Schnellinger. Don Revie made this 17yo winger a LB/LWB before anyone knew what a wing back was. He was tough tackling and rapid and allowed Eddie Gray to do some damage. What a crap period for the club this last year has been

I well remember those white boots flying down the wing as if they where jet heeled, simply an outstanding footballer and without doubt the best left back we've had and a gentleman to boot, what a sad time it's been for that great side recently....r.i.p. coops

Sad news. I saw Terry Cooper score against Rotherham Utd back in 1967, in a League Cup game IIRC.

Did anyone else own a pair of white, Terry Cooper training shoes with colored patches showing where to strike the ball ?
