Crystal Palace, Brentford and Watford have been linked with New Zealand midfielder Matthew Garbett, 19, who plays for Swedish club Falkenbergs. Sun
I wonder who the "shocks" were? I can imagine the likes of Grey, Success and Perica being on the list - but they're not shocks.
Being linked with Hib's Josh Doig again - although I suspect that left back is no longer a 'position of concern'. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...tford-4m-battle-sign-Hibs-left-Josh-Doig.html
Adam Leventhal claiming that Watford are not one of the clubs in the mix to sign Josh Doig. Sky Sports News now suggesting that Arsenal, Chelsea and Celtic are all interested. Burnley and Leeds have also been linked. I do not think that anyone knows for certain - apart from the two clubs who are involved in the deal.
Apparently we have signed another left back anyway - the trialist James Morris, ex of Southampton. One year contract with an option of another year.
Definitely means that Watford will not be signing Josh Doig. The club appear to be going for cheapness (by signing a player - who was rejected by Southampton - on a free transfer) rather than paying a relatively small amount of money for a highly rated left back. Apparently Watford did have an offer of £2.5 million rejected by Hibernian, who described the bid as disrespectful.
Sky Sports Transfer Centre are now reporting: WATFORD IN POLE POSITION FOR DOIG Watford are in pole position to sign Hibernian defender Josh Doig after it was confirmed by his manager Jack Ross that he would be leaving the club this summer. The Hornets have had long term interest in the player. I am not convinced that Sky Sports actually know what is happening. Why would Watford need to sign a fourth left back?
I actually think that Hibs are being unrealistic with their valuation. I hate to say it, but highly rated in Scotland doesn't mean highly rated in England. A case in point is Aberdeen's valuation of another of our rumoured targets, Lewis Ferguson. Having seen him in the flesh a few times, I'm not even convinced that he would stand out in the Championship, such is the difference in standard here. Both he and Doig may have the potential to succeed in England, but equally they may not - I just don't think that either are worth risking the sort of money being quoted.
I can't see us entering a bidding auction for anyone let alone someone who would initially be 3rd choice. So I think we are out of this one.
Linked with Pablo Ortiz, who is a 21 year old, 6’3", left footed Colombian central defender. He plays for CD América de Cali, who have Jorge Segura (a 24 year old central defender) on loan from Watford. No idea whether there is anything in this transfer rumour nor whether he would qualify for a work permit, but he has made 5 appearances in the Copa Libertadores during the 2021 season.
