There's probably no legal redress of that either. Idiots for giving money to a stranger, arseholes for taking advantage of people.
Thats just bizarre. I wouldnt dream of doing that. I'd make sure I could afford to go before applying for a place and going through the whole process. It's like if I applied for a job, about 50 miles from where I lived, went through 3 interviews, had a look around the place, liked it, was offered it, took it, went home, then realised that I couldnt afford the bus fare every day. It would be tough ****. I'd have to turn the job down through my own stupidity. What I wouldnt do would be to scrounge the money off of total strangers. I can comprehend strangers giving strangers money over a hard luck story. Deaths, losing a limb, treatment abroad etc. But this isnt a hard luck story, its just careless and/or idiocy, or this was their plan all along and crossed the gofundme bridge when they came to it. Well they can **** off!!!
modern kids... i was brought (dragged?) up with the old, 'if you cannot afford it you cannot have it', it was a much simpler and effective way of looking at things. what annoys me about 'charities' now is that so many seem to have appeared and beg for cash left right and center yet the ...ahem... CEO of said 'charity' claims a 350k to 500k+ wage, basically it is just another way to get others to pay your way while you dont actually do a thing (they will actually hire some secretary to do all the work, probably on min wage). everyone expects and wants a millionaire lifestyle now, even to the point of going on any television reality show and being a complete p1sshead, slag, w@nker, even 'overplaying' the role, then suddenly they appear to become celebrities and get invited to all the quiz shows...would really love to get these youngsters back to the 70's and in the factories, pits and yards, get out there with a shovel and learn what work is.
This is something that annoys me. Like you say Smug, no problem with well deserved charities getting what they need, this is a bit extreme but I'm sure you'll get what I mean, but when someone posts online that there kids fish tank is leaking, she loves that fish tank, then someone sets up a go fund me to raise 23 quid to buy a new one..... 97k later. Its too easy these days to tug at the heart strings then just watch the money roll in.
At one time it was fashionable to show Christian charity. These days Bleeding-heart-ism is the mode. A number of years I was in King St when I was attracted by a crowd. Nebbing in I saw that a shop worker in Dixon’s electrical (or it could’ve been Curry’s) had caught a shoplifter and had wrestled him to the ground. The yob was actually screaming for his mam! A wifey in the crowd tut-tutted “ah! What a shame. Poor lad!” I couldn’t believe it! She actually was sympathising with him. Then 2 big blokes came along and threatened the shop worker, forcing him to release the thief. Shortly after that the shop shut down. I’m not saying the closure was due to shop lifting, but I wonder how many of the people who bemoan the closure realise the impact of theft has on high street shops.
I used to donate to Oxfam in the 60s until I found out one of our highly paid managers’ wife was a highly paid employee of oxfam.
I think it's Princess Di to blame. No one wants to do anything privately now ... .... grieve, give, cry or whatever. Mrs Smug's sister sent us a 'Kighthood for Captain Tom' petition she'd started which we ignored .... ... when he was knighted she was on Facebook 'in tears of joy' because the petition had been successful
I have a dream of fronting a rock band on a world tour. The logistics mean it’ll cost me £250000 for the house I need to work out of and another 50k to furnish it. Please visit www.imascroungingtwat.com and donate what you can. I’m currently £300000 from my target but hope to get there before my mortgage is paid off… Give me strength!!
No big charities get my money now, they keep saying donate £3 a month and it will keep a child alive for X amount of time. If you see the top mans salary he alone is committing about a 100,000 to die every year.
Reminds me, when Jack Charlton was Newcastle manager, not pleased with the teams effort, apparently arranged a trip for the team down a coalmine - and suggested that if they couldn't be arsed to work at football, then......
Well what is that building for next to the SOL ? i thought our club was helping these kids get into football. When i was 18 i wanted go out with Raquel welch but we all dream !.
It's like these clowns who come on the X-Factor and say 'I'd do anything to become a singer'. Yes, anything except practicing, writing your own material, studying music, training your voice, learning the songs, singing in front of any audience you can find ... ... no they just want to be discovered because they it's the 'lifelong dream'
The country has gone to **** but I cant say I am surprised, its been a long slow decline. Its about time these people were brought back into line before its too late. The problem is the police are too busy hiding in bushes trying to catch people doing 35 in a 30 zone to actually have time to catch real criminals and when they do the punishment is nothing. Crime certainly pays in the UK now as they will get away with more than enough to compensate them for the odd time they get caught.
