Charles Connor. A musical great that not a lot know of but everyone has heard of. i remember him saying in a documentary Little Richard told him to meet him at the railway station. They got on a train and Richard wound the window down and said I want you to pla6 that beat of the steam engine on the drums. It was a sound a particular loco made which was used on that service. They then played the sound of the loco fading into him playing the drums. In such a way was one of the most iconic intros, the intro to Lucille, born.

Sad to hear about Ged Dunn. He was also my P.E. teacher at Bransholme High from 79 to 82. The first time I was ever going to twag was on a Friday afternoon. There was a gap in a hedge which, if you ducked enough, you could run through and get out of school. On this Friday a few of us decided we had better things to do than attend school. A few made it through the gap, which was impressive as Ged was chasing us at the time. Being new to the twagging lark, and not realising you had to duck to get through the gap, I ran straight into a branch and cut my head open. I was knocked back by a couple of feet straight into Mr Dunn. Blood was coming out of my head at a fair rate, but I was laughing like a mental. He didn’t get angry he just showed compassion to me as I lay there bleeding. He took me to the nurse, who did what she did and I was sent home. He never reported me and he singled me out on my return to school to see how I was. One of the few positive memories I have of school is Mr Dunn. R.I.P. MR Dunn

I was in his tutor group 75-78 and thought he was a good teacher and a decent bloke. I enjoyed his ripping the piss out of Steve Portz a Hull FC player at the time, who also taught PE at Branny High. A right double act…

I recall Ged Dunn taking the assembly one day, in Branstead house, and telling us about his best school buddy. The former England RU skipper Roger Uttley. Some of the scrapes the pair of them got up to curled my toes. Sort of bad boys turned good through sport.
    RIP Mr Dunn.

DMD’s post on PNE reminds me that Ged Dunn drove a Bond bug when he joined Rovers.
