Some of the presenters are not exactly "brain of Britain". However having said that the taekwando guest expert is a breath of fresh air, no dramas, no hysterics, calm and a joy to listen to.
Speaking of the coverage i don't think it has been up to it's usual standard, then i came across an article that says Discovery+ a channel on Sky that you can register or pay for has the rights to the Olympics and so governs who gets to show what and when. I suspect that they are taking the top sports for themselves and limiting the terrestrial viewers, and i am also including Eurosport in this, as to what they can or can not show...
yes I was wondering what was going on with the coverage and found out about this too. apparently the BBC are now only able to show live coverage of 2 sports at any one time - so therefore are showing coverage on BBC1 and on the red button. however bearing in mind that BBC1 also focuses on highlights of earlier events as well, there is very little actual action! there are however no restrictions on the radio - and I am finding the radio 5 coverage exceptional (makes a change because their coverage in recent years has been increasingly poor and dominated by football)
So far so good with the Olympics. My concerns about it being a bit of a non event appear wide of the mark. Whether it remains that way when the track and field events play out to an empty stadium is questionable though. There seems to be just about enough coaches and sundry hangers on to at least make a bit of an atmosphere at most events. For differing reasons the men’s and women’s triathlons were brutal. Fair play to the Norwegian male and Bermuda lady champs. Clearly tough cookies.
Another day and yet another set of medals...!! Gold for the 4x 200m swimming Freestyle, silver in the rowing, but wait not all things went well. Andy Murray crashed out of the tennis pairs at the q-final stages thus ending his holiday abroad as he shouldnt have gone in the first place in my mind...!!
Just watched the women's trampoline final and it's utterly fascinating... Strange that something i would normally flick over to something else in normal times now seems to captivate me in to not wanting to turn the tv over...
It didnt help with the cameraman zooming in on her whilst she was about to crack up...!! She's still a talented girl, maybe not in the same league as the Jamacians, though you could hardly say they were all happy at the final tape...!! Talk about a lack of compassion or celebration for Thompson-Herah come the final celebrations & thanks...
The one and only Ed Moses was a bit of a sporting hero to me growing up over the 400m Hurdles, just oozing class with unbelievable speed, skill & grace at his chosen event... Step forward Karston Warholm who has just broken his own World Record of 46.70 seconds to set a new target of 45.94 seconds in what must be the performance of the Olympics by far...!! Tokyo Olympics: Karsten Warholm sets stunning 400m hurdles world record
And you have to give great applause to the American Rai Benjamon who pushed the flying Norwegian all the way to record the 2nd fastest recorded time in the sporting event ever as well with a time of 46.17 seconds ... The third placed Brazilian Alison Dos Santos came up .02 short of equalling Karstons previous best time, so he ram a huge race as well... Take a bow all three of em...
Keely Hodgkinson the ‘find’ of the Olympics for me - her performance today was incredible. Just a shame that the US have also found an even better teenager in the same event, but these two could dominate the middle distance division for another couple of Olympics.
Skye Brown - 13 years old and not even the youngest on the podium Amazing that she falls in her first 2 rounds and in the third lands the trick that had eluded her in the other 2.
That Mu for the yanks looks very classy dosnt she... Lets hope our girl can stay with her, as you say Steveo, could be a good match up over the coming years...!!
I had a skateboard at 13, fell over too many times, went to kicking a ball against a wall for the next few years of my youth... Oh how i've wasted them...
If the men can do it so can the women... American Sydney McLaughlin smashed her own 400m Hurdles World record when claiming the womens 400m hurdles race taking almost half a second off her previous best time recording a time of 51.46secs with the defending Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad also breaking the old WR with a superb time of 51.58secs... What's also amazing in the race is that 5 of the 7 runners set PB's in the race as well...!! You just can't ask for any more can you... Well, other than go a little bit faster...
