Yeah it's relatively common for players to be able to shoot or put in crosses on either foot but I don't think Embleton himself knows which of his feet is stronger. Very rare.
I’m one of his biggest critics but he was decent today. Solid. I thought Johnson would go with experience in goal. Massive win
He was let down by his defence for the goal. The lad with the initial shot had way too much time and the scorer was totally unmarked ... ... having said that he very nearly missed an open goal.
Bugger all he could have done about the goal. As you know I'm not a big fan of his but tbh he's probably the right choice to start, I'm not sure Patterson is ready. If he can take on board the instructions from Johnson to be proactive and claim crosses he'll get no criticism from me as he's a good shot stopper.
Did you miss the fact we were discussing his footwork? "I know he's the fall guy but he never put a foot wrong today."
It’s not his feet that bother me it’s his hands of stone, or late on his chest of stone. He is a poor keeper even at this level.
burge had a couple of dodgy moments today, but he is a keeper...if he was 'that' bad he could easily have let another couple in today and he was certainly not alone with dodgy moments...it is time we all accepted these lads are at this level for a reason and if they were consistent and made far fewer mistakes they would have had a career in higher leagues. right now they are doing great and pulling them for any and all 'dodgy moments' is pretty pointless.
They all have dodgy moments mate. Embleton's header was terrible, Winchester passed the ball to them under no pressure in the last few minutes, Gooch missed the chance to shoot when he didn't get his head up, McGeady let a man run past him when he shied out of a tackle, Doyle lost track of the ball and put Burge under pressure, O'Brien dithered on the cutback and the chance was lost. But it's always much easier to criticise the keeper.
I agree but shouldn’t we be looking at players who can grow if we go up. Burge’s command of the box was better today but he’s not a championship keeper, so if we can get a better keeper we should. Clough always bought a good keeper.
i think the whole policy this window is to do just that, try to get players that can 'grow' with us, i have honestly yet to see a really solid and consistent keeper in this league so from that point of view, burge is going to do as good a job as any...of course, if a more highly rated keeper came along at the right price and wages etc then yes, we should get him in.
How do you know that roger? I personally don’t think anyone should be “guaranteed” game time. You work for it. Imagine if we’d promised Grigg game time to get him here. How would that have turned out?
Hi Marcus i read it where i cant remember at the moment, but it was when Embleton was offered a place in the promotion winning team in the championship, along with a pay rise as they tried to buy him, we had to counter with game time an an improved contract to win his services, same as the Onine contract, he was offered championship football and an improved contract, we countered with a guarantee to play him in midfield his preferred position, and i remember where i heard it was prehab. as LJ said in an interview, no more square pegs in round holes, but cant remember which interview that was but i know he said it
