Didn’t miss it though. It was on target. If you hit the target with a penalty, for me you’ve done your job. If the keeper saves then well done keeper. Said the same in the Euros about the England lads. Only one there was no excuse for was Rashford. Mcgeady’s last week was nowhere near the corner. But it went in. O’Brien midweek was a superb penalty. Perfectly placed. Yet one poster STILL found reason to have a go about it!!!
Let’s not get forensic over it lads. Gooch gave his all today. And he’s scored a few pens for us no? would have been nice if he had scored but all the better for us to go and win it. would have drawn these in previous years
So am I. The dressing room will be buzzing and for him to part of that after his debut will hopefully settle him down.
Think Gooch is the penalty taker when mcgeady not on. I had (and still have) no problem him taking it at all. Only reason there are any questions being asked is because it was saved. I’m not sure he’s not scored any of his previous penalties
Yeah i dont see what sat on the sidelines looking on would have achieved. If anything building his debut up could make him more nervous
People miss pens all the time. Scott Fraser, who everyone was adamant we should have signed, missed one for Ipswich today and they lost by one goal. Would that have made him a bad signing?!? Gooch missed and we won. misses happen.
Although I agree he is not great, he did OK today apart from one daft mistake. Fortunately it didn't end up losing us points but, by the same token, Gooch appears to have gotten off lightly with his penalty miss, considering he was poor for most of the game!
Gooch wasn’t great today but he was superb last week - best player on the pitch. He’s got bags of ability but is ridiculously inconsistent. Burge just isn’t great at all and will cost us many points if he remains #1
Gooch blows very hot and cold but i dont think he was that bad today. Comparing to how good he was last week he was but a penalty miss doesnt define his performance. He sometimes struggles against a decent fullback i think which makes him very inconsistent
1987/88 mate. Definitely was. I was 12 that season. It big season fir me as I went home and away to every game. 100%. Premier league was 1992
Game management great.....just got to ride the storm out at times.....but all that matters is the three points....onward and upwards.
When their player got the ball that Burge rolled out he was still about 30 yards out and most of our players were between him and the goal. The ball took about 3 passes before the goal. We had opportunities to stop the goal before they got the shot off. Burge did roll the ball out too fast but there was lots of work to do before the goal. It wasn’t a poor roll out and an immediate shot back, there were about 3 passes which could have been intercepted or their players tackled. I'm no Burge fan but 99 times out of 100 it would not have resulted in a goal. That was his only error that I can recall.
