I thought once Longman went off, we were decent today, at least until their second (and the sending off obvs). Not too disheartened, without some of their excellent last ditch defending/keeping, things could have easily swung the other way.
Disappointing result today but nowhere near as depressing as the second half of the season before last. There's certainly room for improvement but the new lads all looked to have something to offer and the old hands from last season so look capable enough. So, early days yet but plenty of hope for a decent season to come.
We were undone by two bits of dozy defending and three worldies by their keeper and defender. I actually thought we played pretty well, apart from Elder who understandably looked a bit ring-rusty, and if the game had ended 1-1 I'm sure the Dramas would've gone away happy. Still optimistic about the coming season especially if we can stop giving teams a goal start. Just seen the sending off again which looked stonewall at the time but was actually very soft.
I was disappointed with Doc today, he had a couple of chances to have a dig, like last season from the edge of the box, but laid it off. I thought Moncur’s sending off was harsh, the replay they showed on the TV seemed to show, yes, he went over the ball, but didn’t seem to make contact with the player. I’d have to see it again to check for certain.
Magennis needs to look up when he passes. Quite a few occasions he gave the ball away by just blindly passing to a QPR player under no pressure.
Sorry, but from what I saw today, I’m not sure you’ll be troubling the play off places. Plus you have De Wijs, who is an accident waiting to happen.
2nd game in a row Dr Allam was there in his Roller. Few groups of fans asking for photos with him and he generously obliged. Perhaps there is a celebrity polo comp going on somewhere? Was also good to see comrade Hale in the E concourse. Shame they couldn't have met in the Dugout for a catch up.
Dived in but no contact when you see it in the second replay ... (1.22) https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/12381597/hull-0-3-qpr
I disagree with the general mood on here that QPR won’t be challenging for play-offs. They’re a well-organised team and I expect top half at least. We showed glimpses today but we were second best all over the park for most of the match. Undone by two clever set plays we should’ve done better on, a sending off and a killer third goal. We didn’t play that badly but there’s definitely room for improvement, especially in this league. Longman showed he’s a tidy player but we looked better when we beefed up the midfield. They dominated us first half in the midfield battle.
Obviously a QPR fan edited that extremely lopsided view of the game. Showed all their chances but no sign of Magennis' first half header with that world-class save, their keeper also saving from KLP nor the clearance off the line from Smith.
QPR have a significantly better squad than us, that's why I was quite encouraged by us getting on top for a reasonable amount of the game.
We lack championship quality in areas , and I think we all knew that . We could have still nicked something today if a bit more clinical but I always felt as we were playing a stronger team than us , more experienced and savvy. I hope we get Huddlestone , not saying he would have made any difference today , but it was clear that one thing we are short on is top level experience and know how , and we need some of that in this squad
I’m worried about injuries. Because of this 25 man limit, we really can’t afford to have any long term injuries because we won’t be able to replace them. Longman will hopefully be alright, Malik Wilks too but unless we get special dispensation from the EFL, I can’t see how we plug the gaps with quality.
