I think Alves will be the FB cover, if needed, others could cover his CH role.
For me this flexibility within the squad might mean that we get a RB and GK before transfer deadline day.

Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the loan signing of Nathan Broadhead.

The 23-year-old striker moves to the Stadium of Light from Everton on season-long loan, following Alex Pritchard, Callum Doyle, Corry Evans, Dennis Cirkin and Frederik Alves to Wearside this summer.

Broadhead made his first-team debut for the Toffees in December 2017 in a Europa League tie against Apollon Limassol, with his Premier League debut coming last season away at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Wales Under-21 international spent the 2019-20 season on loan in Sky Bet League One with Burton Albion, featuring 22 times and scoring three goals.

Last season, Broadhead netted 11 times and registered three assists for Everton’s Under-23 side in Premier League 2.

Upon joining SAFC, Broadhead said: “It’s been a mad 48 hours from being on the bench for Everton to arriving in Sunderland, but I’m so happy to be here. I’ve had a good pre-season, training and playing for the first team and travelling with them to America, and I’m sure that will help me hit the ground running. It’s been a long time since I’ve played in front of fans due to the pandemic and Sunderland is a massive club, so I can’t wait to get out there.”

Lee Johnson added: “Whenever we bring a player in, we do so because we believe they will make us stronger and that’s absolutely the case with Nathan. It’s a coup because he’s had top level offers in Europe, and Championship offers as well, at what is a key stage of his career. He has the experience, technique and speed, and he just needs the vehicle to put that together. We believe that Sunderland is the perfect opportunity, as he will have the team, supply and service, and a PL environment around him, so it is a really good match.

I like the bit highlighted from Johnson, bit of a dig to the other clubs supposedly in for him :emoticon-0100-smile

I was thinking more lb cover mate. The lad from Liverpool we were linked with apparently can cover rb also and be backup to Cirkin

He would’ve signed last week but had to delay it as 5 of the Everton squad had to isolate and he made the bench.

makes it even more incredible that not a single journo got a sniff of it.

pretty exciting knowing that we could see a tweet from a random fanzine at any point saying a player has signed :D

People were getting pretty worried a couple of weeks ago. But is now seems we were being run like a proper professional football club. No leaks or owt. On top of that we were aiming for players outside of our usual type.

At what point to we change the term 'bench?' it's blatantly a very comfy padded chair.

True but hopefully they won't get a chance this season or in fact as long as KLD is in charge
He has well and truly shut them up
