It's not politics, I suspect this could even become a sticky.

I feel most sorry for the Women and Girls, they likely to be stopped getting education and Women's football and Cricket has helped them get the equal opportunities for both men and women, which may well now be lost.

Been thinking for a few days about starting a thread, just can't see it lasting long as politics will come into it.

What a waste. I think the worst thing was to give them hope of a better life and then take it away.

My brotherinlaw served in Afghanistan and he, well they all went with the best intentions, they had their remit and were determined to do the job they were sent in to do.

On his return his attitude had changed to "Nah **** em, they're animals, they're simply not human as we know it, they can't be helped, **** em".

Maybe the world is finally coming round to the same conclusion.

At least 5000 of whom worked as interpreters and other support for the British Army putting them at increased risk and absolutely deserve our help of course.

And to think many over here panicked over bog rolls last year. Kind of puts things into perspective..

There'll be a lot of very frightened people in Afghanistan now, especially women and children. What kind of future might they have under Taliban rule? The younger ones will only know the kind of reasonably liberated life they've had since 2000-ish.

This thread is just going to be a basket case of ****ty opinions about immigrants, isn’t it?

It’s a horror show in Afghanistan and no human being should have to experience what they’re going through at the hands of the Taliban. Hopefully those that get out can find safe refuge somewhere. It’s actually decent to see the U.K. stepping up and taking some of these people, hopefully sans “but only if you’re skilled” attitude.

This thread is going to be a basket case of ****ty opinions from naive types who think refugees, asylum seekers, economic migrants and illegal immigrants are all the same thing and equally deserving of being allowed to settle here.

Afghanistan has been in turmoil since 1973 and neither Russia or the West has succeeded in bringing peace. There are signs that the Taliban is currently lead by moderates, as was the old mujahideen, and has a lot of internal support, I'm in favour of pulling out now.
One more thing, if civil war breaks out again is there a risk of terrorism at the Qatar WC as they have backed the Taliban?

One man's moderate is another man's demented extremist.
