Go on then, some dodgy selections from York today... 1:30 - Major Jumbo @ 18/1 2:25 - Ehraz 3:00 - Sir Lucan 3:35 - Alcohol Free 4:10 - Rajinsky @ 11/1 4:45 - Mid Winster @ 12/1 5:20 - Sisters In The Sky @ 12/1 I've put the ones with odds against in a small e/w L15...
Just hope that the 2 favs I’ve backed today both oblige. If they do then it’s a good day 2.25 YORK DUBAWI LEGEND 9/4 3.35 YORK MISHRIFF 2/1
In the opening race at York I felt Whenthedealisdone looked like a young sprinter on the up. He's been raised 6 lbs for his last win but he's relatively unexposed. Hurricane Ivor flopped last time but the ground was heavy that day and he may do better now. I couldn't quite shake the feeling that he seemed inconsistent in France but his effort when second the time before puts him in the mix today. I have done Whenthedealisdone and a reverse forecast with the Haggas horse. 1.50 York Whenthedealisdone 7/1 Whenthedealisdone/Hurricane Ivor RF
The Acomb looks an interesting renewal. Dubawi Legend was imperious on debut when destroying his field by five lengths but he's short enough for me based on the collateral form looking very ordinary. In twelve subsequent starts there have been three placed and nine unplaced, with zero winners. His winning margin was such that you can't expect too much from the others in the race but we are looking at a Group 3 now and the odds are a bit tight. Ehraz and Noble Truth have met before. The Godolphin horse got the better of it then but had the advantage of a previous run. Ehraz hosed up next time and you can see why some people think he will gain revenge today. I feel that Noble Truth was still a bit green last time though. The fact that he wears a hood suggests that he needs focusing and he quickened up to finish strongly, I thought he won with something in hand. At the odds, I felt Noble Truth was the better value today. 2.25 York Noble Truth 10/3
To quote from an Amy Winehouse song ..... what kind of ****ery was that???? Outsider of 5 - but fair do's I guess, won well enough. And Noble Truth and Erhaz finished in the right order, albeit last and next to last!
Well, pick the bones out of that Acomb, the rank 25/1 outsider pissed up. The next longest in the betting was runner up. I got it right about Noble Truth confirming form with Ehraz but only for 4th and 5th in the race. I had to smile at Simon Rowlands making much about Ehraz recording the fastest ever splits for a juvenile at Ascot last time. The colt finished stone last today, so what did those splits mean? Noble Truth was never really going well and he just wasn't good enough. Dubawi Legend never really looked like winning and perhaps he just won a weak race when trotting up on bebut. Royal Patronage was destroyed by Native Trail a couple of runs back and has now trotted up 5 lengths at Epsom and landed the Acomb. Masekela also won next time after running second to Native Trail, so it will be interesting to see Native Trail in either the Champagne Stakes or National Stakes next time.
High Definition was woeful in Ireland last time but that was too bad to be true. On his effort in the Dante he should win this. Kemari drops in trip and I don't think it was a good race he won last time. He'll need to be faster over this trip at York. Sir Lucan is of a smart level but again I feel High Definition has the better run in the book. High Definition for me.
Surely retirement beckons for High Definition now. That was not as bad as the Irish Derby run but he's clearly not functioning at any viable level. Makes you wonder a bit about Hurricane Lane's form a bit. Kemari was dire and it was the well exposed Yibir who came through. His form on a sound surface is better than when it has soft in the description and he is solid when he gets his ground. The Mediterranean was used as a blatant pacemaker but managed to take the runner up spot and I think that shows a poor renewal of the race.
having my worst betting afternoon of the summer! looking at the International I am going for 2 to take on the favourite. ALCOHOL FREE was a good winner of the Sussex Stakes and looks a good price. The Classic Trial race at Sandown just received another boost with Yibir winning. I will be interested to see how ALENQUER gets on in what looks to be a day of shocks.
In the Juddmonte I wanted to be against Love. I don't think she has looked great this season and she was a late substitute for St Mark's Basilica. Most of her time was spent bearing up moderate opponents last year and the stable have been pretty lean of late. Mishriff and myself never click and I will give his followers a chance to collect by avoiding him today. I decided to take a chance on Alcohol Free lasting this trip. York is probably one of the better places to be trying to stretch your range at. She was impressive in drawing away from Poetic Flare last time and I feel it is worth chancing that they can coax her home in the crucial final furlong today. Her form looks solid and I thought 5/1 worth taking, with the world and his wife seemingly giving her no chance of staying today. 3.35 York Alcohol Free 5/1 (Sorry guys)
