We just looked like a League One team, their keeper didn't even have to make a save. Just launching the ball forward, sideways passing, not very adventurous. Can't see us getting anything against Fulham, if that's the best we can muster, we're in for a tough few weeks against these former Premier League sides.
Absolutely awful performance in all departments, lucky it was only Derby or it would have been much worse. Fulham looked a class side last night, really not looking forward to playing them.
Derby's first away win since Feb......grim stuff. Think we're better set up to play away from home, less expectation, team playing on the break.
Got exactly what we deserved from that game .. fk all .. we are desperately missing the energy and craft of Honeyman but we also need some quality .. until Thudd came on we just couldn't pick a pass .. KLP needs to forget the hype and get back to playing simple football which brought him success in the first place ..Magennis needs a lesson in the offisde rule .. and we need to react quicker to what's happening happening in front of us .. that game was crying out for Thudd to be on at half time, bring some accuracy and composure to proceedings. The soo er George is back the better but he is gonna need help in there.
Not sure what exactly constitutes a "crisis club". They have, apparently, the best right back in the division, two ex-England international centre backs, a current Polish international and a quality playmaker in Morrison. On tonight's showing I know which team I'd say was in a crisis.
Poor result and performance. GM needs backing over the next couple of weeks otherwise we will be back in League 1. We need an experienced centre back and another forward Magennis like he did last time in the Champ looks completely out of his depth.
to support McCann that means paying back a loan, then getting their hands in their pockets and that AINT GONNA HAPPEN...
First game I'd seen this season so first chance to see whether a team with very little experience of the Championship could make the step up. I had been optimistic, and of course it's early days, but felt we struggled to make the step up across the pitch. CBs with no experience at this level struggled, especially Jones. I did worry that Burke's experience would be a loss. Midfield of course lacking Honeyman is a huge loss, and I like Smallwood but at times he looked too slow. Up front - despite the goals we scored last season there were times when we were very careless and cant get away with it at this level. KLP and Williams naive at times, and Magennis lack of touch really showed at this level. Not saying this team and this manager can't adapt, but a VERY sobering evening.
100%....We'll get more points on the road and against teams who play open on the front foot football, starting on Saturday. One can only hope.
Baxter in for Fulham. Gawd we miss George and Malik. Need another no 9 and an experienced centre-half. Agreed.
Don't know what to say other than what others have already said. We looked really bad tonight, far worse than when we played QPR. At least on Saturday, we strung a few passes together and had some decent chances that could've changed the game. Tonight was just poor. For 90 full minutes our only objective was to hoof diagonal long balls and hope one would catch Jagielka and Davies out; not a single one did. There was a real lack of composure and concentration by some of the younger players who we all hold in high regard i.e. Greaves, Alfie, KLP, Docherty etc. It looked like we couldn't even get the basics right all game. First touches were going into the feet of Derby players, simple 5 yard passes were going out for throw-ins, KLP trying too hard and fooling nobody but his own legs. In hindsight, I think our transfer activity has been below average and not competitive enough for this division. That's down to the embargo and we'll see at the end of the season whether or not it was truly worth not paying the loan back to the EFL. I said we should try a 3-5-2 before the game and I really think we need to set up like that against Fulham to avoid it being a rugby score.
We should all remember the difference in City when we had Elphick. Never the same side when he went back. Desperately need another good centre half with experience. Jones is a great player but his best position is further forward. Still it’s only August and there is plenty of time to get things right.
We looked more lively & positive against QPR, we didn’t look as good without a Honeyman or Moncur in there. Smith looked bright, but nowhere near as good as the George’s. We need a new idea other than lump it up to Magennis. Williams looked good, Elder & Coyle alright going forward. Defensively we look terrible. Doc doesn’t have the ability he had last season, not sure what’s happened to him?
Agree with most of that, but the embargo has made not a **** of difference 'cos Ehab was always going to sign frees and loans on a 1 in 1 out basis anyway. He knew that when he took the loan/grant.
