I’ve got a feeling the original plan was shift Grigg, then striker, but the good start and the buzz they’ve gone ‘**** it get what we need’. It’s good to have that flexible outlook. End of the day anyone we sign this season is paid for by promotion. It’s not PL money but the step up to the Championship income wise is absolutely huge. It would essentially zero costs based on where we are now (of course, we would have to upgrade the squad so wouldn’t stay that way)
The home crowd sizes will have boosted the revenue forecast as well, allowing them to increase wage expenditure in line with that.
I agree 100%. If he doesn’t go way ain’t getting a fee so what’s the point having him poison the well.
Just found this.... "To talk about the basic earning of EFL Championship teams, TV money is only a small chunk of the cash any team will receive. Unlike the Premier League, the EFL do not hand out prize money based on positions. Every club receives the same ‘basic award’ of £2.084 million. This reflects the EFL giving an equal share of the TV deal negotiated with Sky to broadcast Championship games to every club in the division, regardless of where they finish. The EFL also give every club in the Championship a £4.3million ‘solidarity payment’ as per the most updated publishment." EFL Championship clubs are awarded £100,000 for every home game broadcast on Sky, while they are given a £10,000 bonus for away clashes on the box."
It’s not just about the money from Sky though. The sponsorship and advertising income ramps up, crowds are bigger which means more match day revenue, there’s all kinds of things that grow at a higher level. Even if it was £7million say, the total wage bill listed right now is £7,183,748. So, it would essentially zero out the wage bill, the clubs biggest cost. We get just about nothing right now, that’s the cold hard truth. Fortunately we have to great crowds and good shirts sales. I doubt a local energy broker will be able to afford the front of the shirt when we go up.
Sounds exciting if we get the players in he's talking about. Equally, as he said, if nobody came in then I think we've got enough quality in the squad to get through until January at least.
