We need to move past this attitude of telling off the people who don't come any more - they aren't listening. We instead need to talk more about how we get those people back or get others to take their place. By we I mean the club as a whole, but obviously it needs a big concerted effort from the club itself first and foremost.
Agreed. They’ve at least done some good even great things with season pass prices But there’s just not enough done to market the club
I think fans and fan groups can play their part by not looking for any opportunity to slag off the owners, and blame or criticise them for anything and everything. It's divisive, and plays a part in the negative image of the club as a whole. It's become almost a fashion statement, and that statement should be changed to a more positive one about the club. And before anyone pipes up with the usual divisive negativity (which would help make my point) that doesn't mean you have to support them, it's more about supporting the club. It could even make it more attractive to new owners.
I completely agree with this. I don't think the club is particularly attractive at all. After not being able to go for 18 months, our first title since '66 and a good group of young players with local lads, we only sold 7k passes. It's absolutely woeful. If anyone thinks new owners will walk in the door and attendances will shoot back up to 18k, then they're very mistaken. Of course, there will be a little lift but people need to reengage with the club on a much bigger scale The lack of radio commentary is definitely a big one, especially for the older generation and whilst last year we had a great season a lot of people won't have seen much/any of it. £10 for an ifollow stream was pretty expensive when we were playing 3 times a week.
Our home gates has never been about cost or radio coverage...it’s about form. Been that way since Waggy signed.. It’s no secret...just hard to admit. Allam’s OUT.
That doesn't make sense. Last year we had 2nd best home form in the league. We won 14 out of 23. That should've encouraged people to go, it hasn't
I didn't click, but that's one post from one group, and from the bit on show, to some degree, is a case of damning with faint praise, as it still effectively has a snide dig at the club. It changes nothing at all about what I posted.
If it helps the estimation I can report there is 100% attendance from our group, which is a 50% larger group size than pre pandemic due to recent membership investment So at least 3.
I can see why you'd think that in isolation It is worth looking at what the Trust do put out though, because they are very clearly taking a positive, almost conciliatory, tone in my view. Their tweets prior to that one were all praising the club. One before for an 'excellent gesture' by the club regarding giving out free soft drinks vouchers with the delivery of the away shirts (and also incidentally an apology for the delay, which shows something about the club too I think). One before that praising the club for listening to fans concerns on pricing and changing things for today. I know that's only one group, but it's a big and influential one. It's likely they will criticize the club at some point in the future too, but right now the tone is excellent, and very appropriate, I think.
There's a lot of people with influence on various platforms that are constantly negative towards the club. Burnsy is the obvious one, he and Swanny have been incredibly negative for many years. The most obvious example was after relegation, he asked Bruce whether we were more likely to go down again than go up. We went up that year. It was a stupid thing to say. Even people like Rick on Twitter is constantly negative. He used to produce some brilliant City content. Phil Buckingham was pretty negative too, that's why Baz has been a breath of fresh air. It's also great to see him going to the 23s games when he can too. The current model and club is actually pretty good. Progression is going to rely on us selling players first and reinvesting. It's been a difficult summer as it didn't make sense to sell anyone this summer so the transfer market has been really tight. But the recruitment has still been good, every signing looks astute and over the next few years we'll hopefully be able to kick on in a significant way
You are pissing in the wind. For thousands the damage is done and for a large proportion of those, the only solution is for the Allams to be gone. Debate all you like about the right or wrongs of that; it won't change the fact. Continuing own goals, even relatively little ones like crispgate just re-enforce feelings (not to mention everytime Ehab opens his gob with his BS and lies). A shame, as the club are now doing some good stuff. Fair post from PLT .... -> "We need to move past this attitude of telling off the people who don't come any more - they aren't listening. We instead need to talk more about how we get those people back or get others to take their place. By we I mean the club as a whole, but obviously it needs a big concerted effort from the club itself first and foremost". The club has more recently done some good things. Membership prices is clearly one ... but even then there was an own goal with things like the match day prices, and non availability of still advertised 6/12 match passes - little things but they just re-enforce the feelings. To PLT's point, I would say it's not that those people aren't listening. It's that they've made their decisions. You can only piss some people off so many times. Ehab isn't going to change and unfortunately isn't even going to allow a CEO to run it for him, so the vast majority of those missing are lost while the Allams remain. End of. So it is logically then about the club consistently engaging with it's community to attract "others to take their place" ... and in some ways to a degree they are doing that, but they are missing so much more, and continuing to score own goals & piss people off (RH is one example). But as others have said already, it is also driven to a degree, not exclusively, by success on the pitch; this season isn't going to help as it will be one hell of a struggle as Ehab isn't giving McCann the tools to do his job (and I still doubt McCann has the ability anyway). But the real answer is for the Allams to sell, or if not then at least to stay totally in the background and hire an Adam Pearson type 'CEO' to front it. (The above is not about me personally, but yes, I despise the guy, and their ownership contributed massively to me going awol, but now if I want to attend then I attend, but for various reasons it's without a membership).
Well done. But it's not enough is it ? We will do well to break through the 10,000 barrier today which is shameful. Bank Holiday week end, perfect weather, decent opposition, new signing, Tom Huddlestone, etc etc etc. Posters keep claiming the club should market the game more but I see more marketing today via social media and so on then we have ever had. Let's face it how many people buy the HDM today ? So no loss there. We do miss out on marketing via Radio Humberside, which basically is what it is plus commentary which the BBC would have paid a fee for. That remains a problem that needs attention. I spoke to an old guy this week who cannot attend home games anymore for health reasons and he now pays £45 for audio match commentary ( not per game) and is delighted by it. I am sure he is not the only one so winners and losers on that one. Our low fan base is a problem and not a new one either. It has always been with us, no matter who was sat in the Directors Box. It bothers me as it always has. Home games for me were always me and sometimes my brother in law. I meet mates there obviously but most of them are lads I went to City with when we were kids ourselves. When we moved to the KC and started winning that increased to as many as ten in my party on a matchday and everyone had a great day out. Now it is down to just me again. Today I have bought tickets for one of my granddaughters and her boyfriend. It is a real treat for them because they couldn't afford to go otherwise so today is a big day out for them. I hope they enjoy it. I think the Allams, or any owners, are a good excuse for people not to go. Football days are far more then who is sat in the best seats, but it seems it is not enough for a lot of people and it has been like that for a long time. That is the problem. How you address that in Hull has been a mystery all of my life. We could go from 20,000 to 10,000 at Boothferry Park in a week depending on results. It infuriated me then and still does today. Perhaps I am a dinosaur but I cannot think of a better Saturday afternoon out then going to watch Hull City live.
Was always told in my early working life, look after the customers as they are a lot easier to lose than get back. Pretty simple really.
Why not just shorten the post to "**** off Allams, you are everything that's wrong with the Club and until you **** off we'll continue boycotting, slagging, finding fault and bitching like women on a daily basis"?
Stupid response. That's not what the post said. Did you even read it. Attitudes and responses like that simply don't help anything.
You've touched on it in your post. The Club's been there for 117 years, how or why can you improve marketing on an established football Club that sits fairly central in a fairly large City...? Our crowds have always been dependant on form and what division we ply our trade in and that was long before the Allams came anywhere near. It's a lame excuse for some( not all) and as 'goneforawalk' has alluded too,the damage is done for some and they choose whether or not to go,that's their choice. Sitting 260 miles away I wish I faced that choice...
