The card at Newmarket is very poor for a Saturday, so I turned to Goodwood for interest.

The Prestige is an interesting Group 3 contest for fillies over a 7F trip.

Favourite here is the Crisford's Daneh, who won on debut before running third to Oscula over in France. That was a Group 3 race but I am not sure if it was the strongest of contests.

Value Theory let me down for a treble when 3rd in the Sweet Solera. Mark Johnston is a man I can't get a handle on, so I am passing on her here.

Hello You started her career well and was runner up in the Albany but she has failed to settle in her races and I cannot see that being conducive to the extra, 7th, furlong today.

I went with Tinderbox here. She was second to Value Theory on debut before going on to win well from Silk Romance next time. That Godoplphin filly has just sluiced up tonight and made the Gosden's filly look more appetising for a bet. I think the daughter of Farhh can improve with her races and that she can turn the tables on Value Theory here. At double the odds of Daneh, I was with Gosden's grey.

Available at 13/2 now, I will be surprised if she is not nearer 4/1 tomorrow, as Silk Romance's performance filters through.

    1.50 Goodwood Tinderbox 13/2

The pattern races at Goodwood present a dilemma. Just the five face the starter in the March Stakes and none of them have winning pattern race form. The bookies make course winner Nagano odds on favourite but the ground is very different to that day and I would be more interested in Juan De Montalban, runner-up in the Group 2 Italian Derby when last seen in May and subsequently bought for €400,000 by David O’Meara. If he had not been off the track for three months, I might have weighed him down with my money.

The feature at Goodwood, the Celebration Mile presents less of a quandary. Clearly the best horse in the race, albeit now a seven year old, is BENBATL; who has not been seen for nearly a year but won first time up last term. It is difficult to make a case for any of his opponents. Duke Of Hazzard won this two years ago (Happy Power third) but has not won since whilst Happy Power is really a seven furlong horse with a preference for easy ground but his yard is bang in form. Since winning the Greenham, Chindit has been an also-ran in three Group 1s whilst Mutasaabeq was added to the Guineas after winning a minor event impressively, was behind Chindit at HQ, nowhere in the Jersey Stakes and now steps back up to a mile after winning a four-runner race over seven last time.

The first of the pattern races, the Prestige Stakes, features a combination of exposed two year old form and those that need to be viewed from the point of view of potential. I did Value Theory when she was third in the Sweet Solera, where Star From Afarhh was behind, but that does not look great form and if Andrew Balding is to win it, course and distance winner Wilderness Girl would be the preference. The best form on offer includes Daneh’s third in the Group 3 Prix Six Perfections at Deauville won by Oscula; however that one was behind Hello You when she was runner-up in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot. Any market interest in Tinderbox from the Gosden barn or Mise En Scene, winner of her only start, would be significant but PROSPEROUS VOYAGE had no chance with all-the-way winner Nuance at Chester last time when held up and will hopefully be kept nearer the pace like when victorious at Epsom.

Another disappointing card at HQ with no race having more than nine runners and the feature Hopeful Stakes consisting of a bunch of horses with indifferent recent form, other than Tabdeed, third in the Hackwood Stakes last time and probably using this as a stepping stone to the Haydock Sprint Cup.

Off to Cartmel Races today, been about 10 years since my last visit, bet nothings changed. Usually we all ask for tips at the places we are going to, but to be honest anything can win at Cartmel so i'll pick em while I'm in front of the bookies stand...!! :emoticon-0102-bigsm :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I do know one or two trainers do well here, Haslem & Bowen to name two, and Brian Hughes wins a lot, but it's a day out with a group of about 14 of us, racing won't be high on the agenda now will it...!!

If you having a play today then good luck to one and all...<cheers> <ok>

I wouldn't be totally surprised if long standing maiden Elixier in the 4.35 finally gets his head in front today or reaches a place at least. Wasn't far away from minor money last 3 runs and the 6th place at Cartmel last time out hinted a bit of promise. Out of the weights today but its a weak race...

Have a great day at Cartmel, Red, and back all the winners. Will take a look as soon as I can break free from the Wife's 'orders'! Reminded her it was Saturday. Nah, just kidding, she's the best actually! Good luck! :emoticon-0167-beer:

Aytach Sadik sends out Young Turk in the Cengiz Sadik Memorial Handicap Chase (For the Cengiz Sadik Memorial Trophy) at 5.15. Sad story this - Cengiz was the son of Aytach and committed suicide in 2014 after being involved in a court battle with his estranged wife. He wasn't allowed to see his sons, aged five and six, for more than a year and that proved too much for him.

Found all this out on an interesting thread on the Betfair community here

Also found out Young Turk used to be owned by Gigginstown and trained by Joseph O'Brien. On just his second start he beat Champion Bumper winner Silver Concorde at Bellewstown. SO the ability is there.

Its about 18 years since old boy Aytech had a winner and it would be very fitting if Young Turk could snap his losing streak.

    Enjoy the day red <ok>

The Beverley Bullet looks competitive but I feel the old timers Judicial and Dakota Gold are the ones to focus on. Both have been grand servants over the years.

Judicial won last time out, whereas Dakota Gold was unplaced. To put Dakota Gold's run into perspective, it was in the Group 1 Nunthorpe at York.

The elephant in the room with Dakota Gold is today's Good To Firm going, as trainer Michael Dods feels the horse has the ability to find more under pressure when there is give underfoot. You have to go back a fair way to when he won on fast ground, whereas he has won his last seven races on soft going.

Judicial would probably appreciate a bit of cut as well but seems less obviously dependent. That and the fact that he arrives here in winning form sways me in his direction today. He won this contest two years ago on good ground and seems sure to run well today.

    3.15 Beverley Judicial 4/1

Have a great day, only went once and that was enough!
It’s always seemed very unique and a course for specialists but not sure if the stats would back that up.
BEENO 12/1 5:50 must be of interest today. Course record of 6 wins and 4 places from 11 starts! Two outings ago he was third here (the winner bids for a hat trick in this race) and the second and the fourth have both won since. BEENO has been eased a whopping 7lbs since that effort.

    Afternoon all,

Aiden O’brien isn’t winning much atm but hopefully HMS ENDEAVOUR will change that in the upcoming race at Navan. Taken 4/1 to hopefully get the day off to a good start.

Great start to the day, no doubt it’ll be all downhill from now. In the next at Goodwood I’m going against Grendel and back DANAH but will add Tinderbox for the fc.

15:15 Beverley - (The Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes) - Dakota Gold

(This fine sprinter must hold a great chance of winning this Listed sprint for the second year running. Connor Beasley takes the ride for the in-form Michael Dods yard. 7/2 top price atm, freely-available.)

    17:50 Cartmel - Finisk River

(Improving and, setting a strong pace, will give the others a real test. Brian Hughes rides for the Donald McCain Jnr. yard. Best price of 7/2 freely-available at time of writing.)

Best of luck today guys! <cheers>

Poor run from Tinderbox, she kept losing ground outside and weakened badly. She looked small in this field and I suspect she's one to avoid now going forward.

Value Theory gave it a go from the front but was claimed fairly easily. Daneh looked like winning but was mowed down by Mis En Scene late. The winner looks like a mile will suit her and she is entered in the Group 1 fillies mile later in the season.

Did that nicely enough. He is one I picked out over on the Interesting 2YO prospects thread but he was a bit disappointing first time up. He's been a non-runner a couple of times when it's been on the soft side and today he looked as if 5F might be his best trip, as they were getting back to him somewhat in the closing stages.

The 3.07 at Navan sees Windsor Pass favourite and at around 7/4. She has hd nine races now though and her OR of 75 is solid, rather than daunting. I thought it worth chancing Dermot Weld's Straight Talking, who is a daughter of Frankel.
